Your Gamer Dreams Have Just Come True -- Finally!

True Realm – A HUGE two-day “gamer theme park” that is packed with TWO DUNGEONS and TD mini-events!

It is a shared gamer-geek dream that someday there would be a “theme park” just for medieval fantasy gamers – and it is finally here!  Due to the overwhelming response from volunteers and players regarding the “True Dungeon: Director’s Cut” event, we have greatly expanded the scope of the event to create a medieval fantasy cityscape loaded with cool gaming events.  Not only will the “theme park” be DOUBLE the size of the Gen Con Indy True Dungeon event, but there will be TWO unique True Dungeon modules offered as well as many cool TD mini-events.  You can spend two full days completely immersed in “True Realm” while living out your “True Gamer” dreams!  As one volunteer succinctly phrased it:  “It is like Disneyland for gamers!”

True Realm will be housed inside a 40,000 sq. ft. cavernous warehouse, and it will be divided up into the Dungeons and the City.  The Dungeons will take up about 28,000 sq. ft. and it will be the area where all the True Dungeon events are held.  The City will be a 12,000 sq. ft. detailed medieval fantasy cityscape complete with cool, high-quality facades and lighting.  The cityscape itself will appear to be a section of a typical medieval fantasy city, and it will include much more than the following:

Between the times you spend playing all of the ticketed events, you can have fun enjoying many free activities like the aforementioned Bard’s Contest and the Costume Contest.  Or, you can visit the Inn or the Tavern for some refreshment while picking up an open game or trading some tokens.  Also, you can sit down to strategize with your team for an upcoming event, or you can just sit back and talk about old gaming exploits while enjoying a turkey drumstick – barbarian style.

Below are more details about the event.  You can also CLICK HERE TO READ OUR FAQ to get the event details in a less wordy form.

Two Completely Different True Dungeon Adventures!

True Dungeon: Director’s Cut - This event is the module we ran at Gen Con Indy 2008 — only expanded a great deal (because of the extra time and space) with new rooms, multiple paths, new encounter twists, more intense effects and challenges and new surprises.  This is the coolest TD event ever.  The module has also been altered a great deal so that it will be a lot of fun to play even if you have played before.  Don’t count on knowledge gained at Gen Con Indy to help you necessarily – it might even hurt you!  Both normal and NIGHTMARE XP are available for this event, but this event equates to the Gen Con Indy 2008 module.  For instance, if you have played the event at Gen Con Indy 2008 at the normal challenge rating, then you can only get more XP (up to 1,350) by doing this event on NIGHTMARE setting.  We do not recommend this event for those less than 16 years of age, as this dungeon will have more intense effects, physical challenges, scares and interaction with NPCs.

Start times are from 10:00am until 10:00pm on Friday and Saturday with an adventure starting every 12 minutes.

True Dungeon: Retro - Due to popular request, we have taken the first-ever TD module from 2003 and we have updated and expanded it for your enjoyment at True Realm.  With all new sets and props — plus a few new surprises, all players who venture into this module will have a great time.  This is your chance to play the adventure that started it all!  Only about 300 players can say that now.  Normal and NIGHTMARE XP are available for this event.  It is considered a separate event from 2003, so XP earned in 2003 won’t affect the XP earned at this event.

Start times are from 10:00am until 10:00pm on Friday and Saturday with an adventure starting every 12 minutes.

Two NEW True Dungeon Mini-Events

True Raid:  This is our first ever TD mini-adventure that is a one-hour, ticketed event where a team of 4 common street thugs must break into a temple and steal a magic chalice guarded by many traps and detection devices.  This event is very light on rules and it is more focused on instant fun of physical challenges and group problem solving.  The event can be enjoyed by total newcomers and TD veterans.  Many of the TD concepts will be introduced in a limited fashion, and no outside tokens will be used for this event.  Groups who pass the various challenges (think of sneaking by the Giant or getting the key in the dome type things) will receive a cool “Rogues’ Guild” button to proudly display.  The cost of the event is $19, and on the second Saturday of sales (Oct. 25th), whole groups of 4 tickets will go on sale.  Individual tickets will then go on sale the following week (Nov. 1st) at the same $19 price.  No XP is awarded for this event…only fun (and a button!).  We are also offering this adventure on NIGHTMARE setting where your reward for completing the theft is a cool NIGHTMARE Rogues’ Guild button.

Start times are from 10:00am until 10:00pm on Friday and Saturday with an adventure starting every 10 minutes.

True Grind:  A party of eight normal TD characters will assault a three-story tower that has a nasty monster on every level — and the party must see if they can reach the top by the end of the 30-minute hack-fest.  This is a true test to see if your group has what it takes to take on True Grind and be victorious.  Again, two cool victory buttons will be awarded for completing this test of melee mettle — one for both normal and NIGHTMARE levels.  NOTE: The only healing that is allowed are spells (not scrolls), the Paladin’s “Lay on Hands” ability and the +1 Broadsword of Life Stealing.  No XP is awarded for this event…only a chance to show the world your group has what it takes to take on True Grind and win.  The cost of the event is $10 per person, and on the second Saturday (Oct. 25th) of sales, whole groups of 8 tickets will go on sale. Individual tickets will then go on sale the following week (Nov. 1st) at the same $10 price.

Start times are from 10:00am until 10:00pm on Friday and Saturday with a hack-fest starting every 30 minutes.

Event Details

True Realm will be open on Friday, April 3rd and Saturday, April 4th from 9:30am until 11:00pm.  The two True Dungeon adventures (as well as the two TD mini-events) will have start times from 10:00am until 10:00pm.  The event will take place in a very easy-to-find warehouse in southern Illinois just six miles west of Interstate 57 at Exit 58.

We have secured a great rate of $74/night at three nice hotels in Marion, Illinois which is about 8 miles from the event space.  Once you buy an event ticket, you will immediately receive an email with special links to reserve these rooms.  There are several daily flights from St. Louis into Williamson County Regional Airport (WMA) through Great Lakes Air for only $89 round trip.  This airport is only 1 mile from the hotels.

Because we have limited space in True Realm, we must restrict access to True Realm to only those who have an event ticket inside True Realm for that day.  So, if you want to enjoy True Realm for both days, be sure and spread your events out between both days -- or you won't be able to enter True Realm on both days.  The event ticket must be presented at the front gate to enter, and it will be marked so it can't be used again for entry.  We will hand-stamp anyone who wishes to leave and return.

Southern Illinois offers a great deal of fun for non-gaming spouses and families.  There is a nice Wine Trail and there is even a cool D&D-themed children’s park!  More info here.

There is no True Realm badge to purchase.  You only have to pay for the TD events, and you can enjoy the True Realm cityscape (“City”) for free between your TD events.  We are selling the event tickets to both TD dungeon adventures and both TD mini-events online at the below link:

http://truerealm.eventbrite.com/

It is hoped that the whole online ticket buying process will be pain free for everyone.  Our rolling out of tickets in a multi-week fashion should eliminate any server lag problems.  Below is a description of how the event tickets will be sold online.

Online Event Ticket Sales for both True Dungeon: Director’s Cut and True Dungeon: Retro

Starting at 11:55am on Saturday, October 18th, we are only selling whole 8-player slots of VIP tickets.  This sale will end at 11:55am on Friday, October 24th.  After that time, VIP tickets will no longer be available to purchase.  Each “1″ slot you purchase is made up of 8 VIP tickets. You must buy out an entire VIP slot of 8 tickets. With this purchase you are buying an entire group of 8 VIP tickets that make up one whole time slot in the True Dungeon: Director’s Cut OR the True Dungeon: Retro event.  To insure against a big sellout at this high price, we are only putting 40% of the available slots up for sale on Oct. 18th.

The benefits of buying VIP tickets include:

(Each of the 8 VIP team members receive)

(1) EXTRA set of 2009 Treasure Tokens - $10 value

(1) TD:DC Tshirt (up to 3XL) - $20 value

(4) $5 TD Silver coins to be spent at event (store, food, drinks, etc.) - $20 value

The cost for each VIP ticket is $89 – so the entire slot will cost $712.  There is also a $1.25/ticket fee ($9.95 for the whole slot) added on by the Eventbrite website that provides the ticketing service.  In addition to the above benefits, you will be the first to receive special discount links to the official True Realm hotels where you can make reservations for $74/night. The hotels feature free hot breakfast, free evening adult beverages, free high-speed Internet, free parking, pool, etc. These links will be emailed to you immediately after you purchase your tickets.

——————————————————————————–

At 11:55am on Saturday, October 25th, and until 11:55am on Friday, October 31st, we will start selling whole 8-player slots of normal (non-VIP priced) event tickets at the price of $39/ticket — or $312 per slot.  There is also a $0.98/ticket fee ($7.80 for the whole slot) added on by the Eventbrite website that provides the ticketing service.  These whole slots will also include all unsold ticket slots from the previous VIP week — so they will be converted to non-VIP status.  This is $10 off per ticket (normally $49) but we are offering this discount as a way of saying thanks for organizing yourselves into 8-player groups.  Another way to look at it:  Buy 6 — get 2 free!

Also at this time we will start to sell whole slots of both TD mini-events – True Grind and True Raid.  The True Grind price for a full slot of 8 tickets will be $80, and the True Raid price for a full slot of 4 tickets will be $76.

——————————————————————————–

At 11:55am on Saturday, November 1st, we will start selling INDIVIDUAL tickets to any left over slots of the two True Dungeon adventures at a rate of $49 per ticket.  There is also a $0.99/ticket fee added on by the Eventbrite website that provides the ticketing service.  We will also sell any remaining mini-event tickets at this time for the price offered the previous week.  These tickets will remain online until they are sold or until March 1st.

——————————————————————————–

PAYMENT:  Our ticketing system will accept Paypal, Google Checkout and any credit card.  Credit cards are processed at the Paypal website, but you don’t need to have a PayPal account to do this.  We just use PayPal to process our credit cards.  We have been doing this with our TD store for a few years and it works great.

Approximately one month after your ticket purchase you will receive (via USPS registered mail) the tickets you purchased in the form of “concert” type tickets. There are no refunds for any tickets, but you are allowed to resell the tickets to other parties. Please be sure to bring your tickets to the event. They are your only proof that you can enjoy the event.  At this time you will also receive all your VIP goodies (if you ordered any VIP tickets) as well as a voucher (for your free pack of 2009 tokens) that can be redeemed at True Realm.

Refunds and Physical Tickets

To repeat, you will be sent “concert-type” tickets via registered USPS mail in approximately one month.   There are no refunds of tickets unless the event is canceled for some reason, but you are allowed to re-sell your tickets to whomever you wish if you cannot attend the event.   Be sure to treat your received event ticket like gold.  WE CANNOT REPLACE ANY LOST TICKETS!

Last Word on True Realm

I want to thank all the volunteers and players who have embraced our efforts over the last 5 years so passionately.  Your hard work and passion has allowed us to make True Realm a reality.  For many long years I have dreamed about providing this sweet gamer paradise, and I cannot express my immense gratitude enough for allowing this “True Gamer” his ultimate dream.  I will work very hard to realize our shared vision, and in the years to come I think True Realm will grow into something very special.

Complete information about True Realm is available online at www.truerealm.com.

2008 Treasure Tokens Almost Gone!

2008 Ultra Rare Tokens

We still have a few cases of 2008 Treasure Tokens in stock, so take this last chance to purchase your final allotment of tokens before they are gone forever.  The 2008 Tokens will officially be retired on Monday, November 3rd – or EARLIER if they sell out before then.  We are still offering the “Pick Your Own Ultra Rare Token” promotion for all orders over $250, so you can pick one of the above Ultra Rare tokens with a $250 purchase. (except the Amulet of Wonder)  You can order them HERE.  And thanks for making the 2008 token collection the most successful yet!

Final Word

I really screwed up in the last newsletter we sent out after Gen Con Indy.  My intentions were good, but they were poorly executed.  I thanked some people by name in the newsletter, and unfortunately I was lazy and did not make a complete list.  I left SEVERAL people off of the list that should have been thanked by name, and for that I apologize.  It won’t happen again.  And I won’t compound the error by trying to thank these people here, as it would probably be incomplete as well.  (I think the event has far exceeded my meager Charisma score!)  But please know that all your contributions are not only appreciated by me, but more importantly they are greatly enjoyed by thousands of happy gamers at Gen Con Indy and True Realm.

I hope to see you all at the first-ever True Realm in April.  I think the first one will always be something special to us.
