TOPIC: Two Types of token bags in 2010?

Re: Two Types of token bags in 2010? 14 years 7 months ago #25

And the advantage of your method, over my original thought was we would only need one new token (the 45 GP token) so all the art work is already available.

Here's another question if we go this route would the factory that produces them for Jeff charge him more because he'd be going with two different setups?

Kim

I love the idea of lighter, smaller, streamlined bags. Rares, Uncommons, Trade Items, Gold, and Healing. Balanced with the average values of the 10-pack, I certainly wouldn't mind getting fewer tokens for the same price, given that the fewer tokens, on average, are just as good.

1) Cuts out a lot of bulk on huge orders. Less sorting, past a certain point, is a good thing.
2) Saves on shipping (giving less money to the Post Office is good). With the current 10-packs, shipping them out is expensive, and shipping back the bulk tokens for Trade Items is pretty pricey. (And then Dave ships out the trade items.)
3) You could (for the most part) cut out those last two steps by just having Trade Items in the light bags. Less work for Dave, in addition to less shipping costs. And you don't end up with huge piles of (relatively) worthless commons that have been traded in.
4) You could print fewer commons, increasing their value. As long as you could still buy some packs with commons.
5) If a huge token buyer has to trade with smaller buyers to fill in a set of commons, that's got to be good for trade. It might actually take some effort to get a full set of Platinum commons.
Thanks for the feedback.

I think the idea would be to make SOME of the bulk pre-ordered tokens the light version -- maybe 70% with 30% being the standard 10-pack. So if someone pre-ordered 120 bags ($1000) then they would get 84 Light bags and 36 normal bags.

We would only do this for pre-orders of $1,000 or more as it does not make much sense for lesser quantities.

Slot 1) Rare
Slot 2) Uncommon
Slot 3) Uncommon
Slot 4a) 33% Uncommon GP token equal to average GP earned by drawing out 7 tokens from the 40 Common token pool TIMES 300% (33% X 300% = average GP Common draw for 1 bag)*

Slot 4c) 33% Uncommon healing token equal to average heal earned by drawing out 7 tokens from the 40 Common token pool TIMES 300% (33% X 300% = average Healing Common draw for 1 bag)*

Slot 4d) 33% Random Trade token broken down in percentages that equates to the current percentages of gaining each token based on drawing out 7 random Commons -- so there would be a better chance to get some more than others

Slot 4e) 01% 100 - 100 Ultra Rare

This should pretty much cover all the bases. Let me know what you think. This is just an idea...something to make it easier on the big buyers and Dave. I might find that after talking to the factory that this is not possible -- or it might not save us anything in the way of costs. Or we might find out that it is just not possible.

Thanks for tossing the idea around.

*Douglas help!

So instead of 10 tokens it would have 7? What type of token would be in slot 4e if you weren't lucky enough to draw a 00 bag?

Kim

It would have 4 tokens. The 4a-e slots above are just variations for the 4th slot.

I would think it would be the same cost for either token package, the difference would be reduced shipping and fewer commons cluttering up your containers. That way if someone wanted they could order 50$ of regular packs to get their commons then another $50 of the light pack to get more of the rares they want.

It could make commons less...well...common...which would be especially fun if you had some encounters that call for combining certain common items...(Maybe one Ten foot pole lets you make a Jump check to cross a chasm but ten of those poles and two ropes lets you make a much easier balance check...That sort of thing) Or maybe people get befouled by something that gives them a -2 for the rest of the dungeon unless they produce One soap token for the entire party.

I love finding unusual uses for common items.

Incidentally, there needs to be a Towel as a new Common. I think the Cleric is Hoopy enough to know where her towel is.

Maybe include ingredients as a rare in the light packs if enough are left over.

Larry

As a "big" buyer...I would not want ANY light bags...

GIVE ME 10 PACKS ONLY.

I personally like hoards of tokens, sorting and sending to Dave what I want to get rid of...and I like having tons of commons to never worry about ever again.

Making the Reserve Bars, or Trade items is FUN because of getting rid of 000's of tokens...and my point is - it is up to me what stays and goes.

Taking away the stuff from buyers (if this is the course) should be totally up to the buyer, and not 70/30 or 60/40 or what not.

The buyer should decide how to spend their money. (And if this means running out of regular bags at some point...that could be very bad for business...)

I would take a pre-order and ask folks what they want. After that make 10-25% of the packs light packs to test the water.

Getting the boiled down tokens *would be* a prize in its own right.

However perhaps you could encourage the light packs. Perhaps if you order $1,000 of the light packs you get some sort of prize. Like a light item (play on words) . . . Light Backpack: +1 to reflex saves.

Perhaps a good things come in little packages token: good for three treasure pulls or something.
