TOPIC: Option to get gold instead of treasure draw

Re: Option to get gold instead of treasure draw 14 years 6 months ago #13
I love rare treasure just as much as the next person, but if you put too many rares in the treasure box then when do the rare tokens stop being rare?

Kim

There's no such thing as too many Rares (and Ultra-Rares & Special Tokens) in the treasure box =D

Ending up totally overdosing on 2009 rares. ::sighs::

I understand your words individually, but not when you string them together like that... :confused2:

Sing it Brother!! :hello2:
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

I imagine the commons in the treasure boxes were an accident or a mistake.
while i hate getting common/uncommon tokes in a treasure draws, they are necessary. as was pointed out how many rares coming from the box does it take to make them more common than they should be. do we really want to make them lose their luster?

we, on the forum here, are a minority of the TD players. we do, however, represent a significant fanatical base of support. we are some of the larger token buyers and thus, common/uncommon tokens are like so much fodder.

besides, loading the treasure boxes with rares and such just takes from the budget of TD and it might be better spent on cooler props.

dare i say it....TD is about the game as a whole, not about the tokens.

I'm not sure if all Rares in the Treasure Boxes really dilutes them that much - the average person going on True Dungeon is going to pull maybe 2-3 tokens. Figuring in Ingredient Tokens in the boxes, that means they are going to get 1-2 Rares from their Dungeon run. Those of us with Horns of Plenty, that draw a BUNCH of tokens, have probably already spent thousands of dollars on tokens that year, and the Rares aren't that big an increase in what we've already got (but still more welcome than Uncommons & Commons, which we've got WAY too many of).

Does filling the box with Rares, Ingredient Tokens, and other special tokens (like at True Realm) really take away from True Dungeon's budget? It costs True Dungeon the same amount of money to print up a Rare as it does a Common - so the cost of the treasure boxes should be identical regardless of the rarity mix in it.

I understand though, this year, why there were probably more Uncommons and Commons in the Treasure Boxes than Jeff probably wanted, he was running really short on tokens, and probably pulled some of the Rares to make token packs from. Hopefully next year will be more like the True Realm treasure Boxes =)

...running really short of tokens...

That seems to be the theme most years...and I am not trying to tick anyone off by pointing this out here.

It is just SOOOOO nice when certain necessities do not run out.

We had enough LIGHTS and party cards this year HUZZZAH!!! (I think that may be a first!)...but I think it was due to smarter use of the lights so I only have my fellow coaches to thank and myself to kick for not thinking of better plans sooner (or was it my plan...I dunno? painkillers, wonderful things...)

OK so back to tokens. I think we saw a decent demand for last years tokens...(sold after the fact) and while I am usually very risk aversive, I think it might be safe to say the annual token stock could be increased. (especially if there is a purchase tier plan within reasonable reach of the buy level last year.)

oh hey - this type in field box thingy is much better to type in at work VS at home...no funny scrolling ...did I say already painkillers are wonderful things...ok sorry

anyhoo, if the annual stock is able to increase, great...changes to what comes out of the treasure boxes is bound to get folks attention.

I was going to say... this year it was noticable that there were enough cards and lights to go around! Awesome job on the part of the provisioners of the little things that make True Dungeon enjoyable- the things that would be missed (and complained about) if they weren't in place.

Gary,
I agree, this year has been much better for me so I expect to be back much closer to my 2007 purchase levels instead of last years.

George

I think that the fact that this year's token set was almost entirely new really helped fuel token sales and demand for tokens on the secondary market. I think Token values are much healthier than they were at this time last year. I hope Jeff has an almost completely new (at least at the Rare & Ultra-Rare) token set again this year, and at most sprinkles a handful of reprints in the set.

Which reminds me... when will the token design begin for next year?
