TOPIC: noob trading/token questions

noob trading/token questions 12 years 7 months ago #1

So I'm putting together a have/want list, but I have a few questions...

1. On items worth GP is there much of a market for the rarer gp items? Or rather, is it worth listing uncommon/rare gp items individually or just count them in the gp?

2. Is there much of a market for plat backs?

3. Is there a fairly well established gp to cash exchange rate?

4... and to open a potential can of worms: What are your must-have (not super rare or expensive) consumables and items? I know class matters, but I'm equipping 3 people, I prefer ranger, and the other two aren't sure what classes they prefer yet, but probably a caster and a melee - and who knows what we will end up playing once we get in the groups.

5. Any other advice on tokens/trading for me?

The answer to your first two questions is that it depends on the person you are trading with. If they already have a complete collection, then it likely does not matter the rarity, they are only looking at gold value. If, however, they do not have a complete collection and want a specific item, then rarity may come back into play. Plat backs really only matter to a collector trying to make a platinum set, otherwise, they are really only a fancier version of the original gold back version.

There used to be a fairly good reference for cash to token exchange kept by Douglas, but that has fallen into disuse. Besides the desire to hord gold for the Arcane Recipes drove the value of gp up in terms of mundane worth. That may have all changed now and it will probably slip back to it's previous value. There are those in this forum who are much more up to date with that number.

I will let others advise as to what tokens are good to keep and other advice.

Like Dave said, most things with GP value are worth what is printed on the token. Some really old stuff might sell at a minor premium but nothing significant.

Gold was selling at round 40 GP to the dollar before GenCon when the big players were stocking up for the auction. I haven't seen any big trades since Con but I would not be surprised to see the price slip a bit.

Until Jeff announces the next big gold sink.
NOW this is the Law of the Jungle — as old and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.

As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back —
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
