TOPIC: Organizing True Dungeon Tokens

Organizing True Dungeon Tokens 12 years 6 months ago #1

I finally decided to do something about the organization of my true dungeon tokens. What I found was a nice coin folder that fit the tokens perfectly. I got a hold of a Dansco 40mm Silver Rounds album (about $18) and it looks like it is going to work out perfectly. Each page will hold 9 tokens and there are 5 pages per album for a total of 45 tokens. Since the tokens are a bit thicker than a silver round I took out one of the pages. The removed page can be easily reinserted if needed.

Each page has slide out protective plastic covers that slip UNDER the face and back of the pages but OVER the tokens. You can't really see them in the photo but each token is protected front and back. This way even though the tokens fit tightly onto the openings, they are also held in place by the plastic. The book works great at holding those tokens that are not going to change during a run. The two bags are for weapons and potions/scrolls. Things that need to be slide and things that need to be turned in during a run are not put into the book.

Agreed, that looks good.
That said, I am still thinking there needs to be a better way to handle the "static" tokens during a run. Having everyone walk around with a sheet, or book, or wallet etc... is cumbersome.
What would people think of something like checking in the tokens used to make the party sheet and having a list of those things attached to the party card? Or something else to avoid lugging all the tokens around. The one shot, ammo, scroll, potion, wand, weapons, gear tokens are more than enough to haul around in my mind.

If you check in tokens then td has to be responsible for a lot of $$ worth of tokens, imagine how much is walking through the dungeon at any one moment just in armor. If you don't check in the tokens then people can cheat by registering with the same tokens for multiple people. I don't know how TPTB feel about it, but I know I like the idea of not carrying all of the tokens around I'm just not sure how one would get around those issues.

Jennifer, I agree. My binder of tokens for the entire group is pretty heavy, and I'd love to not have to carry it around, but I wouldn't feel comfortable checking it in and leaving it, and I'm sure TD doesn't want the liability if something should happen to it. And I also agree that somehow registering the tokens electronically and not physically bringing them with you would be tough to implement, and might open the door to abuse and fraud.

Yeah, registering and checking in tokens would entail a massive amount of rear end pain.

The book above isn't all that big or heavy. Just 4 pages and fairly light. I intend on sliding it into a GenCon courier bag along with the potion/scroll pack. The weapons will just sit in one of my front pockets as usual.

I used to use the GenCon utility belt. That was a nice item to carry and segregate tokens with its multiple zippered pockets. The only issue was when a DM would ask to see something like my Plate of Absorption. Then It was dig, dig, dig, sort, sort.... ah, here it is.

Now all I will have to do is flip to the right page and show the token. It should take an order of magnitude less time.

As a coach, I have had people fill out their party cards (with armour, might items, etc) and then go check their bags, leaving one player to carry potential consumables&essential gear, and everyone else with their weapons & healing. It's not ideal (you have to come early, get party card filled in smoothly, and still might miss some training room time) but groups who carry a lot of tokens can go in a little lighter that way.

I travel light in the Dungeon, with one of the fantastic Token bandoleers (for items I need to fast access or easily show the GM) and a token tote around my neck (for Items I need to show the coach only once).

In one front pocket, I've got a ziplock bag of heals, in the other a "Dungeon Specific" ziplock (last year, water breathing, cold resist potions, etc to give out to new players). Both hands are free for messing with traps, and even then I keep almost losing my Flamin' Shortbow!

In my back pocket, I keep an empty ziplock for tokens acquired in the dungeon or reward tokens to be sorted later.

That is a great idea.
I go into the dungeon decked out in custom pouches and token totes to hold on my gear & keep my hands free... but I often come out of the dungeon with random tokens (from Rogue chests) and then have completion tokens and treasure tokens shoved into pockets as I dash off to my next adventure.

I foresee a ziploc bag being added to my inventory next year.

Are we allowed to fill out the party cards ourselves? 'Cause I'd love to be able to do that as I am often sitting down with my group before the coach arrives and I can fill it out as fast or faster than said coach most of the time.

It's pretty low tech and uncool looking, but works very well!
I recommend one with the little slidey zipper thing. In the dark with the time pressure, its nice to ZING and you're done, instead of "is it snapped along the whole line?"

Another valuable dungeon lesson I learned the hard way!

The last two years I've come with the party cards for all our runs already filled out, and the Coaches really appreciated that. I think it was rare though, at least one of my coaches said that was the only filled-out party card he'd seen. It really came in handy two years ago, when I was running really late and Raven was our Coach, and I had the Party Card filled out and ready to go. It was a lot easier this last year, since the online tool let you print out the card.

It would be nice though, if the online tool also listed all the great bonuses (like breath under water, Free Action, Fire Resistance, etc) like the old tool did. Maybe the program could be modified to print the party card on one side, and all the bonus abilities granted by tokens by character on the other?
