TOPIC: AoW in 2012?

Re: AoW in 2012? 12 years 2 months ago #37

I understand that normally the neck slot is more powerful but I think the more powerful part is you get to pick what to use, that was what I was trying to say :)

I'd like to see the AoW be more about fun cool effects, maybe stuff like the oversized puck, or the ability to play a bonus class, than just a super-powered version of an existing UR.

At one point, I really wanted that too. But then it was pointed out to me exactly how much of a hassle it is for Coaches to have to re-do a party card when you've got 4 or 5 players all wearing AoW's who suddenly get to use different classes. 'Cuz the players go "Ooooh, this changes everything. Let me rework my equipment...." And of course, they are the players who all have a dozen+ URs and very complicated Party cards.

You might say "lock in the equipment first" like some Coaches have (erroniously) told players who wear AoW's... but what if you are equipped as a Paladin, and suddenly have the opportunity to play the Assassin class, which can only wear Rogue-useable weapons & armour?

If there is going to be any option to use "Prestige" classes, I'd say let it be an effect of the UR "?" Special token. It would not prevent players from wanting to switch up their gear when offered another class, but it would cut down on the number of people doing it, per group. (As a Coach, I'd say it was quite common to have groups go thru with 2+ AoW's, but incredibly rare for more than 1 player / shift to use a Special UR token.

Which still leaves the question of what to do for the AoW this year.

Without answering your point about the AOW directly (it could be any out of print token were talking about). More supply + more players should equal the same rarity etc etc

But wow that's a cool idea, I would totally buy a PYP that unlocked a Prestige class. Charm of the Assassin would just be wow.

True. But (as much as I'd like to see more AoW's, because I like seeing lots of people ge to play with the cool effects) True Dungeon does not owe it to the players to ensure a static rarity level. In fact, the secondary market requires some things to be more rare than others. And a large secondary market is also healthy for the primary market. Basically, you don't want to suddenly "change the rules" and piss off your customer base. Whatever decision TD makes has to be done carefully.

That's not exactly what I had been trying to suggest.. but Yeah! "Charm of the Assassin" (or insert-Prestige-Class-here) would be a *wicked* token to acquire. I wonder if we could push for that to be a Level benefit, some day!

my opinion; first and foremost, i want the AoW to have a different cool effect. this doesnt mean it has to be super powerful, but one thing i really like about the die roll is that it opens the possibility of having a chance at one or two super powerful effects. the past couple years the AoW hasnt been as exciting as i would like, but last year having both double-HoP and +1 level was good for power-level. if it is going to have multiple options, i dont see why it shouldnt be a die roll and maybe beef up a couple of those options to make up for the random chance. if psionics, why not have your starting pp(power-points? i think) be based on the die roll? or my idea of granting elemental powers, roll a die to determine which element, and each one gives different bonuses/abilities. i really do want to see something more interesting that a + to a few different stats, but that doesnt mean you have to take away the die roll. the die roll isnt the problem.

This thread is mking want a AoW.
Also Ill take one of those prestige class tokens;) . That is an awesome idea. I think it would make a great transmutable that required gear from 2 different classes plus a might item.

i was thinking the prestige class token could be like the special..one or two time use (the special is a one time use)..then that is it.

I guess one option is to make it a mystery, you don't know until you try it. That really just penalizes the people running early and those "not in the loop", because word about what effect the AoW has would spread pretty quickly.

I'd be cool with it being a mystery (and even random), so long as it was guaranteed to be worth it. Random small boosts to saves and attributes are not enough to justify taking a pass on the other UR neck slot items.
