TOPIC: Input on Legendary Upgrade

Input on Legendary Upgrade 10 years 3 weeks ago #1

I'm seriously considering upgrading to my first legendary this year; I have almost enough gold saved up, and can get to where I need to be with a trade or two. I'm really not sure which to get, though... I'd love some feedback.

I play Ranger almost exclusively. I'm switching to dual Viper Fangs this year, and will probably be switching from the Mighty Longbow to the Keen Bow. I also equip my friends, one of which plays a Cleric. My kids will be able to play in two years, and my son will likely be playing a Wizard.

So--I'm trying to decide between the Fang (upgrading one), Bow, and Ring. The Bow is cool, but the cost (including the extra UR) is pretty high. The Fang probably won't give much benefit on its own... The Ring is great, but isn't a token that I'd be using personally. I'm upgrading all to relic level regardless.

Input/opinions greatly appreciated!

As a fellow Ranger, I agree with Laz. And keep the Mighty Bow at that point.

I often play a Ranger (when I'm not being a Rogue) and that was my main reason for upgrading my Viper Fang as my first (and only) Legendary. Why? 2 main factors:

1) Rangers can use 2 weapons, so you can equip a Legendary and a lesser Viper Fang to be 2 parts of the 3 part set. I use the shirt as the 3rd part, keeping my waist slot open for my Relic girdle. That means I get the +2 bonus from the Viper set, AND the +3 bonus the Girdle gives me (Yay odd str. stats!)

2) Whether you agree with it or not, the way party cards are filled out, the Ranger and Monk get credit for their primary weapon stats even on their secondary weapon. (This will probably change for Grind, but regular Coaches have enough to do without tracking dual weapon stats). That means your +5 to-hit bonus for your Legendary will also bump up the to-hit bonus on your UR/Relic Viper Strike dagger.

If you don't go with the Viper Strike dagger for your 1st Legendary, then I agree with Laz's recommendation: Go with the Girdle. As a Ranger, that bonus Strength affects both your weapons, so the belt is twice as awesome for Rangers (and Monks) as it is for anyone else.

By Ring, do you mean the legendary ring of focus? I assume so, since you mentioned cleric and wizards.

One literal interpretation of the token is that the magic of the item is such that equipping it makes YOU +1 to hit, the way a Belt of Ogre Power does, even if you don't swing it per se, and the pluses to damage are included in the damage wheel. (But if that's true then dual-wielding +1 weapons should make you +2 to hit - does it? I've never been a coach, monk or ranger so I never thought about it...)

Which, as you imply, doesn't mean it makes sense. I'm sure that current interpretation is more for the sake of simplicity and ease of bookkeeping than any sort of comprehensive theory of magic.

Yes, sorry--was talking about the Ring of Focus.

Considering the Fire Giant Girdle now, as well...

I think that having such a fine weapon in your main hand gives you better balance and speed, so that even when you're striking with your offhand weapon, your body is responding better, faster, stronger.

Is that a quote from the Six Million Dollar Token?

We've been giving our Ring of Focus to our Bard. Makes that AoE heal crazy good.

Ring of Focus is not supposed to be equippable by a Bard.

Even if they could, moving a 30 point heal to 31/33/35 points twice is much less healing then adding 1/3/5 to every heal a Cleric or Druid casts.
