My idea would be a recipe token (either through pulls at GenCon, or through a new gold/charity auction) that would allow you to name and have a limited input on the design of a legendary item.

For example: You pull the recipe, and turn it in, you get to choose what type of Legendary it will be (i.e. Item slot) and you get to name it, name it after a character, or someone you know, etc.

After that, the item itself gets put up on the boards as normal for review and tweaking.

Interesting idea.

I think it would work better as an auction thing (even done as an online auction, if there's no time to do it at Gencon) rather than introducing a new token and having complaints when a newbie pulls one and experienced players try to wrest it from his grip.

Right now, the Legendaries are named for Jeff's old characters (I think) but it might be neat to open them up to others. I wonder, though, whether it would make some folks (who have tokens named in their honour) feel like the honour has been diluted. Not sure. It wouldn't bother me - but I don't speak for everyone.

Fascinating possibilities here! Like!

I agree. I was going to suggest something similar; except instead of just slot and name, you got to work with Jeff to determine what the item did.

Also like the charity auction idea.

Surtr (spelling adaptations vary), at least is the Norse king of the Fire Giants. Not that Jeff did not use that as a character name.

Io and Rolland are also mythological figures, but maybe that's just how Jeff names his characters.

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!
