If you do a split, do it in one of the 3x combinations so there is no animosity there. Let the youngling enjoy the draws and pocket your gold draws for later when there isn’t the risk of pressure. This will be how I will do it so I don’t have a need to “compare” with them and they get total pleasure from the pulls without seeing what happened in my pulls.

Most of this is being a good citizen and the more they have the thrill the more likely they will seek out TEs and the engine of this continues to expand. Give them a taste without them seeing your taste.

This is how I handle it. let them do those pulls. I'll take a 10x chip or a few 3x chips and grab a 50 bag when I have enough.

I don't ever pull tokens in epilogue if possible any more, just simpler to get a few pre-packs and sort over dinner with my crew

If not, I agree, no Bueno.

I am a loaner, for a split. If some don't like it, I respect that opinion. I disagree, and feel it helped me get to where I could help others. I hope it doesn't cost me friends, but I may never know.

Which is better is a theoretical exercise at best.

I agree, if TA wants to hold several thousands of dollars on tons of runs throughout the weekend and replace any losses they are responsible for, I’m fine with that too.

To be fair, the risk to TA is nothing like the risk to the players. It has to cost much less than a dollar to replace a lost chip, assuming they have the backstock.

I still think it's an extreme idea for something that only seems to be a problem in people's minds.

I vary. I still sort of like the thrill of pulling out of the box, but I'll also grab chips and run if I'm running a bunch that weekend (usually at smaller cons-GenCon I have too many things to see and people to do to do run upon run). Having the ability to pick the options that best suits my schedule is one of the better parts of the treasure pulls, IMHO.

This.

I think it is great that we as a community try to make adjustments so newer players get protected from potential bad experiences caused by veterans. But sometimes I think we jump on trying to solve problems before actually confirming that there is a problem to solve (rather than an anecdote or two) or identifying what the root of the actual problem is if there is a problem..

I'm going to say this again. Good coaches watch out for bad behavior. I've seen a very few instances in 7 years of coaching and we can and have dealt with them. Sometimes it has required a rule change. But not that often and not impacting very many people.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Yep. Sometimes the rule changes are right there on the spot.
