Price now and price later aren't the same thing, though. These aren't pure collectibles - you can play with them.

I could wait a decade for something to go down in value, meanwhile will have lost a decade of using said token. If play with a token 100 times, it may not matter that it goes down to zero resale.

That being said, it's not slotless, so it competes against all other charms if the interest is in playing with it rather than just collecting it. Then, every year, more tokens get made that compete with what exists unless a reprint.

great point. for me personally it would prob not going to get as much use as others. Since I am not a patron this year it would be more collectable for me. something cool that I can hold onto. maybe it goes up and maybe it doesn't. we all run that risk. look at the elder dragon orb, most spent $ 500 + per orb ( 8k ) for an orb that does the same as the 5 orb. but I digress, the point is in TD the market ebs and flows and I personally can collect like Trent. and others like him but some that I really like to collect. just depends on how many don't want there and finding a good deal. I personally like tokens like this because it means more as a piece that not as many have.

If the prices on these haven't dropped a lot by this January at the soonest or July by the latest, I'd say go ahead and buy one at that time if you want one.

Prices for things like volunteer tokens follow a predictable pattern of going for ~200-250 right after they are available, and usually settle considerably lower within a year.

I have no idea: what is more scare - 1 of 140 Patron tokens, or 1 of ??? full time volunteer tokens?

If you wouldn't be sad to see it selling for $150 in 3-9 months, I'd say buy one now.

I'll sell mine for $290...
