The issue woth the codexes is that they are slotless, so essentially, they are almost like slot expanders, since there is no cap. They also, individually provide approximately the same power as a fully completed pateon token on their own.

Those reasons together give more weight that they should not stack with the Familiar, or that the bonuses should be added to the final token.

Slotless power creep is bad. It's already happening, let's slow it down.

Say no to stacking codex and familiar.

$8,000 for a Token that gives you a +2 stat increase is really not concerning.

$8,000 for a Token that gives you a +2 stat increase is the slowest power creep in TD history. I'm one of the few that have historically advocated for limiting power creep whereas most people were on the other side of the fence. Kind of ironic that lots of folks are now worried about power creep. Makes me think all the min/maxers are just advocating for it not to stack because they don't want to (or can't) spend the money to get it. Regardless, 8K for a +2 stat bump is no big deal in the grand scheme of TD power creep.

People aren't paying $8K for this token, they're buying a bunch of tokens and getting this as a bonus. I'm guessing the market price for buying one will be in the $1,500 to $2,000 range.

I'm not worried about power creep. That ship sailed long long ago. I'm just worried about having the Regal Familiar be available to more people. Any people that hang onto a set of codex just because the cost isn't a problem for them will take one more Regal Familiar away from someone that wants it.

I fundamentally disagree on this take respectfully. I believe most everyone that truly wants the familiar and has the financial resources to get one will have no problem. I do accept that there is a group that wants both and if they can afford it more power to them.
Personally I am planning on going for the familiar and not worrying about the codex’s past that. That said I am not worried if someone pays $3000 for a slotless bead of the champion. Yes the slotless nature is good but I think next years mask and the mark slot are equally as big an issue, heck maybe bigger because they affect way more builds.

In fairness I did push heavily for the stat bost and no expiration date to maintain value though the process after seeing how much orphan fragments were getting. The main reason I never bothered with the dragon orbs or the path fragments was the chance of being left holding the bag on a worthless token.

Depends on how you look at it. You could just as well say they are paying 8K for this Token and getting other Tokens as a bonus. Regardless, a person has to pay $8,000 to receive one from TD. We'll see what Secondary market prices wind up being.
