<br /><br />Why?  If you are referring to the weapons with special stuff on the max damage (like NSSS, death attacks, etc),  I would still give max damage (and double for crit), but only count those extra effects if the symbol is actually facing the damage dot.

skeleton key: automatically opens all treasure chests, traps will still not be auto-disarmed<br /><br />portable hole: automatically defeat one room (one use per dungeon regardless of how many you own, no treasure draw, cannot be used in last room)<br /><br />Himdillion's Hunting Rifle: normal ranged attack, track is 4/4/6/6/8/8* with the * allowing for another attack. this extra attack can be used on the same enemy or a different enemy. no limit to how many extra attacks. also allows for bonus damage using sling bullets and bracers of archery. usable by all classes except wizard, cleric, druid (i know guns are a little bit far fetched, but they do exist in quite a few d&d settings and other fantasy settings, i.e. WOW, final fantasy)

<br /><br />I was thinking the guarantee of max damage would negate the benefit of the chance to get a crit, but you are right - you would still have to slide the 20 to get the crit.  Would you have to declare the armband use before sliding?  Makes it riskier if you are not sure of even getting a hit.<br />

Some more ideas-<br /><br />Brazier of Commanding Fire Elementals – Allows user to control flame, +1 damage on all fire spells.<br /><br />Bowl of Commanding Water Elementals – Allows user to control water, -1 damage to all cold attacks.<br /><br />Brooch of Shielding – Absorbs 3 or 4 spells cast on wearer before shattering.<br /><br />Lantern of Revealing – A continuous invisibility purge spell.<br /><br />Quiver of Ehlonna – Endless quiver of +1 arrows or bolts.<br /><br />Scarab of Protection – Grants the wearer Spell Resistance 14 or 15<br /><br />Golembane Scarab – Golems or Constructs hit by wearer do not get their normal damage reduction / Wearer cuts through all damage reduction of Golems and Contructs.<br /><br />Vestments of Faith – Wearer gains 1 damage reduction against monster attacks (not DM lightning for failing a room or trap damage).  Takes up Spider Silk Shirt Slot.<br />

<br />Ring of Wild Magic:  It will do something different every year.  For instance, this year it could do the "4th Level Character" increase instead of using the potion of heroism.  I'd recommend that, since it would be a shame to go to all the work to make 4th level characters and have nobody do it because it was a one-time consumable.  This way you'd get lots of people to get the Ring to be able to play a 4th Level Character, because it would still have some effect in future years as well.  <br />

<br /><br />Ding!  Ding!<br /><br />I like this.  It would mean a little extra work each year to come up with something new.  I think the players, however, would be thrilled to own one.

The Grimoire - allows user to take on the class of any deceased character at will.<br /><br />Doppleganger's Mantle - allow player to take on the class of any other character for one round. <br /><br />Lucky Coin (magic coin 1, no slot). If player is struck dead, they can force the DM to reroll the hit/dmg that caused their death. Non-consumable.<br /><br />Luck's Fate (magic coin 2, no slot). If player is struck dead, they may flip this token to see if they can change fate. Face=same fate. Back=missed. Non-consumable.

A few I submitted previously...<br /><br />Manual of the True Adventurer - a one time use item that raises the PLAYER'S level by one, thus allowing those who missed adventures over the years a chance to catch up or climb to the top.<br /><br />Sling of Seeking +2 - normal +2 to hit/dmg sling, but once per combat they get an automatic hit (non-crit).<br /><br />Figurines of Wonderous Power<br />Owl/Cat  (+1 to hit, 1-4 dmg, AC 12, HP 6)<br />Badger    (+1 to hit, 1-6 dmg, AC 14, HP 8 )<br />Wolf      (+1 to hit, 1-8 dmg, AC 16, HP 10)<br />Tiger      (+1 to hit, 1-10 dmg, AC 17, HP 12)<br />Bear      (+1 to hit, 1-12 dmg, AC 18, HP 16)<br /><br />Summoned for combat or other tasks as allowed by DM. Player makes an extra attack slide using the figurine token. It strikes as a +1 weapon to hit.<br /><br />If the companion is killed it cannot be used the rest of the adventure.<br /><br />Mask of the Rogue - Non-rogue class player may attempt a trap.

Legion of Ducks and Bunnies (Scroll)  All entities automatically fail all saves for the duration of the room.<br />A horde of illusory ducks and bunnies fill the room with a cuteness aura so suffocating, all everyone can think of is say "Awwww".<br /><br />Monastery Keystone (Item)  All magic is temporarily negated within a 5 feet radius when held.<br />A piece of the monastery's cornerstone imbued with antimagic runes.<br /><br />Endless Quiver (Item)  Arrow/Bolt token is always replenished.<br />You show the quiver and the arrow/bolt token instead of giving your ammo token to the DM upon use<br /><br />Three Section Staff (Weapon) (Quarterstaff +1 Stats) melee can choose to swing the staff for momentum as a combat action.  Multiply the damage done by the number of combat rounds for momentum in between attacks.<br /><br />Runed Drow Skull (Handheld Item)  Can use a pair of the same Ioun Stone.  Limit of 2 different stones that can be used in this way.<br /><br />Smakdown's Coin Purse  Sacrifice X GP tokens to do X/100 points of damage rounded down to target.<br />A nod to Final Fantasy's Coin Toss & GP Rain relic/ability

As great as some of the token ideas are, I'm thinking the token chosen will be one that is usable by ALL classes.  I coudl be wrong, especially if the suggested token fills a gap that hasn't already been taken care of.<br /><br />There have been quite a lot of great suggestions already.  <br /><br />I wish I could find the 2007 suggestions we made.  Looks like those threads might be gone.<br /><br /><br /><br />BattleStaff<br />Usable by all who use the Quarterstaff<br />+1 to hit and damage<br />+1 to AC<br /><br /><br />I'd give more Wizard suggestions, but I think the Wizards have come up quite a bit in stature in 2007 and with the new arcane offensive scroll for 2008.<br /><br /><br />*wish brain were functioning*<br /><br /><br />Okay....with all the "luck" tokens I've skimmed through above, this may be a repeat - if so, please forgive me.<br /><br />Luck Coin<br />Allows player to re-do any single slide, once per combat.  (Hm...sounds like the Feedback loop, so probably not)<br /><br /><br />Feedback Shock<br />Amulet or Ring<br />A1/2 (1/4?) any damage taken by wearer is reflected back to the attacker.<br />Note:  Wearer is still affected by full amount of damage.  It's just that the attacker receives a feedback shock which damages them for a percentage of the damage they inflicted upon the wearer.<br />Hm...sounds too similar to the amulet of thorns (which people forgot to tell DMs they were wearing....)<br /><br /><br />Perhaps I should give up.  Letting brain simmer.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
