2008 Tokens -- PLEASE PROOF! 16 years 4 months ago #1

Here is the next version of the 2008 tokens. If you have the time, please give each proof sheet a good look to make sure there is not some kind of error. Also, this is your last chance to change the tokens! If you think something is too powerful or wimpy or dumb please speak up. I would appreciate it!

Thanks for all the past feedback.

Still missing who can use the warhammer.

I like the broadswords much better now.

EDIT:
Let me clarify... I really like the new UR broadsword. The other ones just look more like broadswords than whatever they were before. Like Apollyon said, they were different and interesting, just not what I consider broadswords.

And to add to the great druid helm debate... Do druids get to wear any other helms normally? I think Jeff has heard plenty on this already from both sides.

I actually liked the original pics for the orcish broadsword for the weapon, I was thinking you might call it something different is all. like orcish Kopesh, or orcish skinsaw, or orcish Flayer.

I really like the UR broadsword pic, PLEASE dont change that.

I still dont get the point of having 2 common tokens that both heal 1pt. Its like having a MtG card that says discard this card to draw a card. I would say get rid of the cure minor. Its the enemy camp, potions should be hard to find. Or have the rations give +2 con -2ac for a room.

I know it has been a staple of the sets, but since there is now the rare holy symbol, can we replace the uncommon one with something else. Getting both in a bag would not be the most fun pull for a new player and there are plenty of the uncommon ones floating around out there that would easily be given away to a new cleric that needs one.

Is there any chance we can get a +1 orcish scourge?

I'm very sad Druids can't use the helm (especially if thier dex is going to change with the char. sheets), and why let Barbs use the tower shields?

edit: shouldn't Chainmail be +4 to AC...not +5? Or maybe bards aren't supposed to be able to wear medium armor? Chain shirt is +4 but chainmail is +5?

It makes no sense to me that Druids can use all the other Dragonscale Armor items, and can't use the Dragonscale Helm. Especially since the Dragonscale Armor is primarily aimed at the Druids (Fighters/Paladins/Clerics are better off using +1 Plate).

I didnt even notice that, I just assumed they could.
Please add Druid to the list of users, it really doesnt make sense for them not to.

Oops...yes...the Druid should be on the list for the Dragonscale Helm -- as well as all of the old ones. This item should not have changed. We posted the wrong artwork. Thanks for catching that.

Sounds like a great idea for an Ultra Rare! You might want to submit that idea.

BTW:

Check out who can use the +2 Mace of Disruption. It is a holy item that only a select few can use.

Any thoughts on the Potion of Heroism? Cool...lame...bleh? I thought it would be cool to offer a way for peole to shake things up a bit and play a higher level character. Making it a UR consumable should keep it from being too crazy, but I am worried that no one will use it!

We will have the 4th level character sheets posted on the website in the summer after 4.0 comes out.

Looks like a very nice themed set - I think it will go a long way in setting the mood in the adventure!

Here's a set of questions and compliments:

Questions:

1) Why both a 50 foot rope and a 50 foot twine? From a DM perspective, unless the puzzle involves threading needles, anything the twine can do, the rope can do better, but many things the rope can do, the twine cannot, ergo, why the twine?

2) Having both Leather Armor and Leather Cuirass may lead to some confusion among newbies. "They said I can wear leather armor!" Yes, but a Cuirass isn't Armor... oh wait... I guess that depends on if the usability list is the same (I need to go check again!)

-EDIT-
Actually, since the classes are the same, I guess it's just a matter of similar sounding names. The confusion won't be too bad after-all

3) The Tanglefoot Bag is very cool in theory, but it is essentially just a weighted net, yes? In the two years I've been full-time DM'ing since the Weighted Net came out, I've seen a grand total of one used, ever. The party had a pre-initiative attack, so somebody with no ranged weapons threw one. Unless there is going to be an added reason to use these in place of doing damage, I can't imagine they'll be much more popular.

4) My understanding is that the UR Hourglass is consumable. Is that correct? If so, you might want to put that on the token. Looking at it right now, it looks like a perm. If it is indeed a perm, disregard, and thank you for not making consumable UR's!

Compliments:

1) Thank you thank you thank you for the higher power shields! I always felt incomplete walking around in purple and magical gear, with a mundane +2 Large Shield. These will do nicely.

2) The more potent Sling Stones/Bullets are quite welcome. Nice to turn the sling in to a viable weapon - especially with that sonic damage, which can not be resisted.

3) I think the Wand of Life-Stealing is an excellent addition. Wizards have always had a serious problem choosing between attacking or hiding so they can be healed. This wand will help bring Wizards back up to the firing line, and will make them more self-sufficient. I think this will be a very popular item!

4) Glad to see the Helm series continue, in any form. It's an under-used slot. I also love the "series" armor. Hopefully we'll see more serieses in the future. It definitely helps inform decisions, and bends people away from simply becoming a total munchkin when they have the temptation of completing a set for a huge bonus in one category, but slighter lower overall stats elsewhere.

I've checked the commons so far, and have only a couple of comments.

I still root for the Oxford Comma!!!

If there is a period after "vs.," I think there should be one after "pt."

What is the picture on the orcish rations?

Still don't feel like the paladin should be able to use the scourge, esp. an orcish scourge.

That's it - off to the uncommons.
Any thoughts on the Potion of Heroism? Cool...lame...bleh? I thought it would be cool to offer a way for people to shake things up a bit and play a higher level character. Making it a UR consumable should keep it from being too crazy, but I am worried that no one will use it!

Very cool...in fact it was among my UR suggestions! I recently changed my suggestion to a non-dungeon only token since I know that adding character levels is the kind of thing that can shake things up a bit too much for some TD folks.

Check out who can use the +2 Mace of Disruption. It is a holy item that only a select few can use.

I'm not sure that it's really all that significant one way or the other to make the mace only for clerics and paladins. You could just make the weapon do 8 damage, when it would otherwise destroy undead in the hands of barbarians and fighters and this is moot because neither of those two classes would use the mace since they have rare weapons available to them that are superior. For that matter, when not fighting undead the paladin can find a better weapon as well, and the orcish flail (which is slightly better than the heavy mace +1) does the same average damage as the mace of disruption for clerics.

Just as an aside, changing the mace of disruption's damage wheel to 3,5,5,7,7,8 would up the average damage from 5.5 to 5.83, which isn't even half the way there to bridging the gap between the orcish flail (5.5) and Gearon's Mace. Still icky but...at least, better.

Insolent fool, why are you not yet kneeling?!?!
