Golden Tickets...your thoughts? 16 years 2 weeks ago #1

Well, I think I underestimated the perceived coolness of the Golden Tickets. It is really cool that we have given the collectors something else to seek out and have fun with. It seems demand for them is getting quite high, and I am sure that crazy high offers will start flying around very soon. There is even now one on Ebay -- and I am guessing that it will go for several hundreds of dollars (if not over $1,000). There should be one Golden Ticket still in the remaining stock, but once that is gone the Golden Tickets will fall into the realm of Token Addicts. From there, I am not sure what will happen this summer as token fever hits hard.

I have received many inquiries as to whether there will be any Golden Tickets available in the second and final token order which should arrive in mid-June. The answer has always been a polite "No, the Golden Tickets are only for the first batch."

I currently am finalizing all the token numbers for the second and final token order, and my greedy little mind started to churn. We could do a half-order of tokens and offer half the number of Golden Tickets (8 GTs). This would maintain the same rareness percentage as the first batch, and it would let another group of 8 play -- right after the first two groups enter the dungeon.

Honestly, I missed my save verses greed and I thought I would post the idea here. I will leave it up to the token community to decide if this is a good idea. It would mean more funding for True Dungeon, but it might make the existing 16 Golden Tickets not as cool. I don't trust myself on this call as to whether this is a good idea or a bad one. Chime in and decide this issue for True Dungeon.

It is perfectly fine and cool if you say, "Jeff, you greedy gnome! No way!" No worries. I just thought this idea would give more people the same chance to get a Golden Ticket while raising more funding for True Dungeon. With the Gen Con's future not without doubt, I have found I am getting more and more paranoid about securing a good nestegg -- just in case.

Again, these tokens won't be available until mid-June, but there should be no problem with them selling out by August 1st. If for some reason there is any of the half-order left in stock by Gen Con, we will have a random drawing with all 2008 buyers getting one "slip" in the drawing for every dollar spent.

Thanks for your feedback. Again, please don't feel bad about saying this is a dumb idea. I don't want any group pressure either way. Say what you think! (This is especially directed toward Henwy -- =D)

I'd be cool with that idea...8 more or even 16 for that matter.

How about some input for next year...??

Find a way to go back to selling GTs at a certain level of token buy...reward the big spenders as I think too many of them had very close calls this year and/or missed out and were discouraged. It could mean even more in sales and if there was a way to get the GT runs out of the way early...you would not have to worry about taking up loads of paid spots...

Just 2 coppers

When we did the Katrina run, I bid $300 I think (and got 2 spots for it, one of which I gave away, I don't even remember to whom - Gary probably remembers). Then the chance to make even more money for charity came up, and you asked if we minded if another group got a Katrina run. Did I think another run devalued my $300 for some reason? No. We all agreed it was the correct thing to do to have another run.

Now, I look at TD as a kind of charity. If it would help TD, I would say sure. Easy for me, I don't have a golden ticket. But that's my mindset.

And if the Golden Ticket people are in doubt - Jeff puts on a GREAT show for a special occasion.

I'm sure it is written in my book of memory...but I don't know off the top of my head.

That was a cool event!

More funding for TD means more kewl effects, more snacks for volunteers, more decorations, costumes, etc. I say go for it!

It sounds great to me. I would even like to see 16 more golden tickets.

I vote for more tickets too.

I say print more Golden Tickets. However if the Golden Ticket promotion does sell more tokens, and I know it will, then I would like to politely request that you print more 1C, 2C, 3C, and perhaps make 4C tokens very expensive to obtain without the 2006, and 2007 combination ingredients. You would have a lot more tokens out there, and not enough combination tokens to go around.

I would also like to see other rewards mixed in. It would be super cool to win a chance to name, or help create a token. There seems to be a demand for the golden tickets, and I would definitely print more if I were you.

I know I am a bit worried that I won’t be able to use the combination tokens I have now. More token sales would just cut my exchange chances down and leave me with unused ingredient tokens (based on the low number of combination tokens being printed).

In summation I say do it, but also print more 1C, 2C, 3C, and perhaps 4C if you make them expensive. Also mix in other rewards. Go for the sales, sales are good, but hook us up with cool loot. Perhaps make a mail in offer that is more expensive in token costs, but guaranteed (a voucher would rock). If you print more tokens, then print more prizes. I think I can safely say that we would like more combination token prizes printed.
Jeff,

I am going to suggest that you should not print more tickets. I agree with the others that it does not undervalue the present tickets. The problem I see with it is that you said you were only going to print 16. People made choices about purchasing based on that what you said. It can create hard feelings if you change things mid-stream, and sets an unhappy precedent for true dungeon.

It was the same with the 4C combo item. There was an announcement that you needed all the 2006 and 2007 tokens to make it. There was some talk about making it available with other recipes, but this is not fair to those who made decisions to make sure they had a set to turn in. I was happy to see the decision was made to respect the original announcement.

I understand that this generates income for the show. What I would suggest is that you make a different promo for the next set of tokens that are being made. Here's a totally random idea: what about making 8, or 16 for that matter, silver tickets that would run after the first group, not have the same special promo(not that I have any idea if this is the case), but be otherwise identical to the first set of runs? As a silly example to differentiate them, maybe the golden 16 could be given the otherwise unique promo "Scroll of Summon Killer Rabbit" and the silver 8 or 16 could be given the otherwise unique promo "Holy Hand grenade".

I don't know if this would be possible, but it would be cool to have special tickets for the last run of the con. I thought the idea was neat last year of the dungeon being torn down behind the last group.

Kim
