2009 Token Suggestions GO HERE!!! 15 years 6 months ago #1

Okay, it is that time a year again to start the amazing group project called "True Dungeon Tokens" again. There have been many good suggestions elsewhere, but please post your ideas again so we can have another good round of feedback from everyone. Also, please post your specific token ideas here as well. I love to see big lists of token ideas! The more the merrier!

We will have another Ultra-Rare contest again next month so don't post any UR ideas unless you don't mind not winning the contest with it.

To start things off...here is what I am thinking for 2009.

-- 35 new Common, Uncommon and Rare (out of 40), and ALL new URs (out of 20). I think it would be fun to basically theme the entire set around the module -- and not just some of the C, UC and Rare. I like the challenge of picking a few themes and making nearly all of the items fit them. I am still needing to do a "drive around" to solidify the module story arc for 2009-2010, but it appears that the themes will be druidical and "ancient ruins". Think stonehedge-ish, celtic and greek/roman-sh. And by "druidical" I don't mean "stuff used only be druid characters". I mean druidical culture. The proposed backstory involves an ancient druidical culture destroyed by a not-so ancient greek/roman culture.

-- I don't see any UR that need repeating for a third time, or any from the second year (2008) that need repeating a second time. Besides they become less "ultra rare" when you have multiple years involved.

-- However, it will be cool to see a chippie version of Gearon's Mace and Dragonscale - and I might bring the Special back again. I like the fun of that last one. And I think we will see the last "Mithral" item in the set -- a Mithral shield.

-- I would like to see more non-UR class specific items. I think they would be fun.

-- And more multiple-year non-UR sets are fun too.

-- Finally, for 2009 the "proof" UR tokens won't have the laser engraved "p" on the back. Instead, they will have the word "proof" printed right on to the image side of the token -- probably at the top somewhere or wherever it looks best.

Well, that is all I have for now. Please let me know what you think, and please post (or re-post) your best ideas here. I hope to get started very soon.

Thanks!

Jeff,

I think all your ideas are perfect - nearly 100% new tokens is great, multi-year tokens are great, class specific tokens are great - and of course if people want to design a bunch of Druid-specific tokens in honor of the Druidic theme I'd be OK with that =D

Mike

Perhaps ingredient tokens could include druidic items, such as oak leaves, holly, or mistletoe.
Um, I don't know if this would be common or uncommon. But I could see a type of Woad being added, like the Jar of Courage, except herbal/plant based. One shot consumable +1 or +2 to Will Save face paint.
For Gold or GP items I could see precious metal ornamental items such as pins, brooches, pendants, wreaths that encorparte the oak leaf or hazel, or perhaps other leaves used in the druid challenge, but that might lessen the challenge if people are more familiar with them.

There is an entire genre out there of vegetative components for potions and other items that could be used to enhance or diminish effects, like poisons, buffs of all kinds, etc. The combinations in some games I've seen are complex enough to require note taking. It's all in where you want to take it. The idea is consistent with the alchemy genre too though, which gives is an even wider appeal. One point maybe worth a cautionary note is that alot of the druidical genre in D+D was focused outdoors, and TD is pretty much an indoor experience. Jeff, you may need to buy some potted plants for the next dungeon. Live or plastic may be a big question.

Only one free action a turn.
Amulet of Natural Armor (+1AC)
Amulet of Thorns
Sprig of Mistletoe - 1/room +2 to any healing or damage from a spell or scroll - Druid Only
Scroll: Shillelagh - Acts as Keen Edge but for blunt weapons instead. Divine.
Pearl of Wisdom - Once per adventure a mage does not loose a spell they have cast. - Mage only.
Darkwood Shield of the Champion - (+3AC), 1 Extra Use of Lay on Hands - Paladin only
Scroll: Mass Cure Minor Wounds - Heal 1 point of damage to all party members.

Since there was a lot of interest in monk stuff I thought I would introduce tokens that represented Monk Fighting styles. While not specific to our setting they can still be used. My only advice would be perhaps introduce one a year.

General Style Rules - Only one Style can be used by a Monk for the entire adventure. Once choosen it cannot be changed. Monks Only. Does not take a slot.
Tiger Style +1 Damage
Crane Style +1 AC
Mantis Style +1 Attack
Monkey Style +1 All Saves
