TOPIC: AoW at True dungeon

Re: AoW at True dungeon 14 years 9 months ago #14

I wish you guys would stop honking that horn. =D

Jeff, the Necklace of the Oak was pretty peach. I'll be interested to see how you're going to top that. =(

Chuckle. I was just going to say, "starting a clique, eh?"

It's cool if you have a Horn and not cool if you don't? I see more anti-horn sentiment on the forum, especially when people keep mentioning that they have one.
*shrug*
If I'm doing a normal run, I use the HoP because with all the firepower we have, there's no need for any other necklace/amulet there.
If doing a Nightmare, I prefer to use whatever token I think would best benefit the party.

Yes; the Necklace of the Oak was a great little treat.

For those of us who are equipping a team instead of just one person and want to make sure the group AoW(s) are with the right classes, can you tell us what the effects are going to be before too long so we can get our gear straight before coming to GenCon?

I agree with Grayseer for equipping the party...But I also like the surprise.
So I am torn.
If like last year it is an increase in level...Well then our Wizard gets it. If it is a bonus to strength well Fighter gets it.

While each time it has been really a surprise (even at TR, it was a surprise to get such cool necklaces), the problem was the mage did not really benefit from the Amulet of Oak and since the AoW cannot be swapped it was a bummer for our melee types. So if you cannot tell us exactly what the effect will be, can you at least hint at which classes might benefit or is it going to be a level bump and as such everyone could benefit?

Greyseer,
Have you talked with Jeff before? I can see him answering... all will benefit (he know what you are asking but will play the DM role) ...Reading Jeff's mind as he answers..."well everyone will benefit with a +2 to there strength..hahahaha"

I will try and think of a clever way to ask what you want so he will have to give a answer that will help

While the token may have only been mildly useful for them during the run, it was quite the valuable trinket... I've seen them go for $50 to $100 on eBay.

I agree though, the +2 Bracers of Defense that folks got for the Special ? token was useful for everyone - not saying it has to be a purple, but everyone's AC comes into play at some point or another.

Lalzo you tipped our hand! Now how do we trick Jeff into telling us - I know, quick a diversion, QUICK JEFF LOOK OVER THERE!!! Alright if someone jumps in their car right now and starts booking it to Carbondale, IL you just might get there by the time Jeff reads this and at the exact time he looks away to read his notes on his desk.

Seriously though, it's not like we're not going to roll up to the tavern and just ask folks what the AoW does so we can plan accordingly for our runs (at least any of us doing nightmare). You might as well just tell us now, you know as like maybe a reward for your loyal fans on the forum , and save us the trouble. It's also not like you're not going surprise us right now - no one really knows. And I'd probably be irked if I expected it to be cool, and didn't find out until I was on the run that it did something less valuable to me than another necklace slot would have done for me. Knowing slightly ahead of time avoids that situation and increases the likelihood that I'm going to have a good time on my run =).

For whatever it's worth,
- M.

[soapbox] While knowing might be half the battle, it takes away most of the fun. It's like you're asking for cheat codes for the dungeon. The characters don't know exactly what they'll be facing; they have an idea of what they might face, and they equip themselves accordingly. If you truly feel you need the inside information to survive the dungeon, send Jeff a Major Rumor token along with your question and hope that he gives you some useful information. [/soapbox]

Like I said I am torn on if I want to know or not. It seems are Wizard is always being attacked. I made some trades and got the wizards Ac to about 20 and 3 extra HP. The only thing I would want to know is if it increases the level. Then Our wizard gets it so he/she has more hit points. Other than that I really would not want to know

Side note (plus to make people mad and IE Jeff look over here): What if the HoP and AoW had a negative effect this year...Like HoP you have to give up 2 tokens for every pull you do?
AoW you loose 2 HP or you can't use an UR in your inventory. Or AoW different "bad effect" every room. Like -2 strength, -2 dex room 2 etc.
I don't Have a HoP so I have not thought of many bad effects for it.

Of course the mage could benefit. He wasn't restricted from wearing it and got the same bonus as everyone else. It's not as if it were a piece of heavy armor or a shield. The mage got the same +2 to strength.
