So, did you get ducked in this years dungeon? Did you try and Duck the party behind you?

I have two stories about some interesting duckings on my runs.

First one was when a group pushed in about a minute early on us. Our ranger (Ladyflame) left a duck by the switch in the Force Field Drone Room. We were waiting in the hall for an extended time so we peeked through the curtains and watched.

A girl walked right up to the switch, picked up the token and loudly exclaimed, "Hey look! a Duck! DM,what does this mean?" The DM told her it meant that she had to Quack after each sentence for the rest of the room. She the said, "Okay, Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack!" while turning the switch on and off with each quack.

The second one was after our group had royally frustrated the Medusa. I was roll playing it up a bit and so was she and with my Medallion of Greyhawk she couldn't really hurt me. On our way out of the room our wizard asked the Medusa (who had been paying particular attention to our wizard also) where do you think I should put this duck?

The Medusa grabbed the duck out of her hand and very purposely placed it in the Paladin Slider with a look of Take That Paly! on her face.

No ducks for me this year, but last year I was hand-delivered a glowing, quacking duck keychain as part of GT gift from Laz - I had to quick after all my sentences, too.

My group found one on the table near the start of the floor puzzle room in Viper's Pit. I'm studying the floor when I hear our first timer friend go "Oooo a duck" I whip around "No!, Never touch a duck in the dungeon" before she even has a chance to go "What?" the DM of the room over darts in from behind the curtain and declares the same "Don't touch a duck in the dungeon" and then vanishes back behind the curtain. I missed a large chuck of that room convincing her not to touch the duck. I was unaware they were player left tokens.
~Meta: Don't worry, it is perfectly "safe" to follow the drunken dwarf into the dungeon!

Yep, with the advent of the Polymeric Decoy last year a PvP of sorts started up. Finding creative ways to duck people has become a minor obsession with my group and others.

They have left duck tokens upside down on the rogues box, buried in sand, attached to the end or magnetic wands, and more this year.

I found one on Zephyr room 1 where a new player picked it up. Worse was later same group in puzzle viper room 2/4 I think where an idiot of my group not only picked it up but encouraged others in my group (half pug) to pick it up as well. Dang near cost us a wizard and druid.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

DM's are supposed to make it annoying to pick up a duck but not dangerous. Maybe a point of damage for not quacking or something like that. People in my group make sure that we tell the DM not to get too crazy with people if they have not heard about the ducks before.

Now if the person does something like the girl in the first example I posted then that is all on them!  Picking up a duck is one thing but messing with a switch is something completely different.

I was the DM in Viper combat room 2 and I got a duck on Saturday. Many people were afraid to touch the duck because in previous years the DM had dished out damage and even a player death at one point! I told all of my players that the duck was for fun only and had no damaging effect on the game. They could participate if they wanted to but I wasn't going to make them do it if it wasn't fun for them.

Most of my players that found the duck were super cautious to not touch it so I had to get sneaky. I would say "You guys are right, you should never touch a strange duck in a dungeon. Can somebody help me find a good hiding spot for the duck for the next party?" and then usually somebody would fall for it and touch the duck! "You have been cursed and now must end all of your sentences with Quack... FOREVER and you also feel compelled to find a new hiding spot for the duck" This would encourage the players to mess with the next group.

This year when my group of local friends ran through the viper dungeon, we walked into the medusa room and i diverted everyone's attention to a small brick on the far wall and told them to look how intricate the detail was on this particular piece - and that i thought it was from the origional TD set and kept going on.

When I glanced at the combat board there was a grinning medusa... and a duck on my sliding puck... the medusa walked over and whispered in my ear "look at the intricuate detail on this duck..." and cackled.

LOL the Medusa room was my favorite this year hands down.

If only the medusa had known the secret to getting folks to look at her was to hide a duck in her hair

I updated the first post (and posted it here) with Graven's image he created. Seems appropriate. :cheer:
