TOPIC: Podcast Questions

Re: Podcast Questions 16 years 6 months ago #25

Rodney is a re-occurring Imp (or at least we plan on him re-occurring) that has taken many forms, in this case an electronic version in one of the dungeons during the 2004 incarnation.

I was thinking of doing riddle reveal recaps from each year, but I wasn’t sure about it because it would be mainly me talking again.

If we can swing it, we plan on having Jeff M. making an appearance either from a trip to Carbondale or though skype or something.

I'd love it if the podcasts had a playtime listed with them.
It'd be nice to know how many minutes they run for, so I don't have to pause in the middle of something cool and go to work, or whatever.

I am sure we can add it to the segment post, but if you pull these with a podcashing or podcatching client you might not see the podcast site. If you have XP, or Vista, depending on how you have the settings, when you display mp3 files in a directory with full details, you can have it show the running time of the files.

Dave

I finally had hubby show me what to do to be able to hear your podcasts. I enjoyed them very much. It made me think of Click & Clack on Car Talk on the radio.

I'm a Mac person - no Vista or XP for me. S'okay, tho, as I don't use podcaching - I expect I'll be playing the mp3s directly from the trudungeonpodcast site.

iTunes on the mac deals with podcasts quite nicely. Just click on the "RSS" link on the podcast site, then click on the "add to iTunes" link. I doesn't tell you time before you download the file but it does tell you the file size and you can make a good guess from that. The other handy thing about adding it to iTunes is that iTunes will check for new podcasts every time you start it up so you don't really have to watch for the new episodes, they just magically appear on your machine.

Drow pronunciation -

A Frank Mentzer article in Dragon #93 states "Drow: DRAU (as in drowsy; rhymes with now and how)". Since this article was written when Gary Gygax was still at TSR, this has to be correct (and it also gives the pronunciations of "Gygax". Frank wrote the 1983 revised core rules, as well as co-wrote the Temple series with Gary.

Aarakocra: a-rah-KO-krah
Arquebus: AR-keh-bus
Baatezu: bay-AH-teh-zu or BAH-teh-zu
Bardiche: bar-DEESH
Bulette: boo-LAY
Catoblepus: kuht-OH-bleh-puhs, also kah-TA-ble-pus
Chatkcha: CHAT-k-cha (thri-kreen throwing weapon)
Chimera: ky-MAEE-ruh, or ky-MAIR-ruh (rhymes with "care of")
Chitin: KITE-in
Cuirass: KWEE-rass
Drow: DRAU (as in drowsy; rhymes with now and how)
Dweomer: DWEH-mer (rhymes with "hem her"), or DWIH-mer; sometimes DWEE-mer
Falchion: FAL-chun
Geas: GEE-ass, or GYASS (both with a hard "g")
Gygax: GY-gaks
Halberd: HAL-berd, (not HAL-bread)
Herb: ERB
Ioun: EYE-oon
Iuz: YOOZ or EE-uz
Ixitxachitl: iks-it-ZATCH-i-til or ik-zit-zah-chih-tull
Lich: LITCH (as in ditch), *not* LIKE or LICK
Lycanthrope: LY-kun-throhp, LY-kan-throhp (like lichen rope/my tan rope)
Lycanthropy: ly-KAN-thruh-pee
Mage: MAGE (as in age), *not* MADGE (as in badger)
Melee: MAY-lay
Otyugh: AHT-yuhg
Sahuagin: sah-HWAH-gin
Scythe: syth (rhymes with tithe)
Svirfneblin: svirf-NEB-lin
Tanar'ri: tah-NAHR-ree
Tarrasque: tah-RASK
THAC0: either THAK-oh, or THAKE-oh
Vargouille: var-GWEEL
Vrock: vrahk
Wyvern: WIH-vern (as in did learn), or WHY-vern
Zaknafein: zack-NAY-fee-in

This recent Wizards page:
www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20070308a

states:
By the way, drow is pronounced like "how," "now," and "cow." Not like "crow.

Although any recent pronunciation should be suspect, as it might not refer to Greyhawk, for which the Drow were originally created.

Thanks, it is good to know I have always pronounced "Drow" correctly, or at least correctly by some original standard.

Dave

Cool. I'll try it. Tho, as a note, I spend a *lot* more time on the TD forums than I do on iTunes. "Every time I start it up" might only be once a month. Clicking from the forums might be as often as 4 times per day. Not that I spend a lot of time on the forums, or anything.

Ooh, look! A new podcast!!

Wow, you just can't trust the internet these days. I looked up the original article (the pronunciations I had were from a web summary), and it actually says:

Drow (M) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . drow, or dro

So it looks like the guy that made the original posting was just making the drowsy stuff up to make his argument for which way it was pronounced. I sent the entire list to db, if anyone else wants it (it is quite long, it needs two pms), let me know.

Does that mean I'd have to call you Brow? (instead of Bro?)
Why am I asking questions here? Isn't that a different thread?
