That's cool. I might have some fighter gear to beef up your friend.

On another note:

I'm going to be running to this Grind. I got into the 11:26am run with 2 friends. Running with them, throught their 2nd part of the storyline. I'll be grabbing my treasures and heading right to the group.

I'll be in a similar spot afterwards. Its grind then 45min to dump gear, eat and be back for volunteer shift.

You guys could give your builds to someone in the group and have them transferred by the coach. Unless you are planning on changing tokens, that may help your group.

Oh and if anyone happens to have 1 Direwood Thorn Trophy they can spare. I really need one.

I believe we have 9 out of 10 tickets so far. I have a question what happen if the 10th player doesn't show? I really wanted to get a friend to try the grind. I figure he could hang around and if there ends up being an open slot he could jump in as filler right?

True Dungeon normally runs a waitlist of interested parties who slot into runs - although I'm not sure if this happens in grind. I'm sure someone here can explain the TD policy with regard to waitlists vs. friends in terms of who gets the slot, but the GenCon policy is your friend would have to bring and hand over the right number of generic event tickets to attend the event (e.g. the number of generics that add up to the price of the event).

The spare tickets get re-sold. TD runs a waitlist and the first person on the wait list that is available gets it.

So being "around" is good, having money or generics is better as is being on the wait list. Doing all this is the best shot.

Unfortunately, the traditional TD waitlist does not work well with Grind because:

1. Grind is often in a separate area

2. TD runs are structured so there is a lot more time to fill empty slots. Players arrive early, and having plenty of coaching time. Grind often does not have as much slack, though with the 1.5 hour centers with the first 30 minutes as coaching, maybe that helps a bit.

3. Grind is a very different event than standard TD. In the past, there have been several cases where the TD Waitlist filled up some Grind slots but those players ended up unhappy with the experience because it was not what they expected (they were more of the "sightseeing haunted house" fans.

If there are empty slots, I do my best to try to fill them but it is often hard since it is last minute.

Although it should not become common practice, in the past there have been rare exceptions when an 11th (and even 12th) party member was permitted. In such cases, it would be ideal to have generics on hand. And you would probably want express permission from all 10 of the ticketed players.

Eric you made my first grinds truly memorable last year. 1st went really well (as well as it could on nightmare anyways, we lost due to time not party kill). I mention that i liked grind a lot as you were crossing between my back and said good a player was needed for the nxt grind. You had hand on my shoulder walked me to waitlist and had me pay generics for the grind and had me fill in. We were short party, 2 members who had never played TD before (father/young daughter who had been waiting and you took pity on them).

I've since learned to think/watch about what i say around you.

To original topic, what is the value of a bard (green/red lvl) in grind. My 2nd has never done grind before. Typically plays bard in normal runs (4th year for him this year).

Re: Friday - Grind - 1:30PM 8 years 10 months ago #21

Been travelling, so just getting back to this...

I usually play a purped-out ranger for grind, but it looks like there is someone even better equipped. If we are going to play Normal or Hardcore, I can play a 5th level Wizard. For that, I'll be purple/red. My other player has never done grind before and will have little experience, so put him down for rogue, as a lot of my unused ranger gear will work for him.

With some of the good build people seem to have, I'd say we consider hardcore to make it a challenge (without being crazy).

Re: Friday - Grind - 1:30PM 8 years 10 months ago #22

Id prefer normal myself as this'll likely be first time for me playing monk but need to see. Depending on what i can trade/borrow hardcore could be an option. I need to see what my build is and what the bard build ends up. So far this looks like 2 new players to grind. My 2nd and droid's 2nd.

Hey all.

Looks like Matt/boc_mage doesn't need my ticket after all.

So I have a spare ticket for this run, if anybody is looking to get in on a Grind!

(And there is still a 10th ticket that is unaccounted for.)
