I don't think most people do, but some do to varying extents. Overall I think it gets a positive reaction, as long as your friend's cosplay doesn't get in the way, hinder them from solving puzzles, or has props that you they have to put down and might forget.

For instance someone on this forum sell class specific t-shirts so you can dress like your class.

I've also seen full teams dress up as a Star Trek away team.

I don’t often cosplay because of scheduling. I do for the GT if I’m lucky enough to get one, and I’m usually the only guy dressed up.

But I spent months making that chainmail, so I’m gonna wear it now and then.

And I’m going to be bringing my hammer this year.

I don't have real numbers to back up this estimate, but I'd say maybe 1%-2% of TD players go through their adventure in costume. Though if you are so moved, by all means, don a cool costume.

However, as has already been mentioned, make sure your costume does not interfere with the game and other players. You will be in close-quarters and will have to pass through low doorways. Big props/costumes are a nuisance and are not a good idea during TD.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

My peeve is backpackers. Some are cool. Some lose spatial awareness and forget they have a bludgeon strapped behind them. If you wear one, be very careful turning around or backing up. Or carry it in front of you.

All of which applies to fairy wings, swords dangling from belts, six-foot staves, etc. If you have to ask if it’s too much, you probably already know the answer.

If you are playing a class which slides a lot, think carefully about whether your costume will interfere with sliding and getting out of the way of the next slider in the party.

Think about the most physical puzzle you have ever done. (The ball table or the pentagon lift come to mind) How well can you do that in your costume?

Back packs. Remove them during the action and set them out of the way if you can. Do remember to get them before leaving a room. I've seen that happen.

In the old days (c. 2007-9), I'd say the percentage of those who wore costumes was much higher. However, as recent as Gen Con 2017 we had two rando games where fairly new players were fully decked-out in costume and those were two of the most fun runs we had all con. The costumed players inspired everyone in the group to roleplay their characters even more so than usual.

I miss the more roleplaying elements of TD like when the Bard actually had to sing so I encourage anyone who is willing to dress the part. That said, if you often change classes, that can make full costuming more challenging.

As for the Character Class shirts that make it a little easier to get ready in the morning and still represent your class, they are availble here.

Redbubble gives you a discount for signing-up for their mailing list and once you're on the list, they send discount codes every few weeks or so. More shirt designs coming soon including Monk (Which is turning-out even better than I had imagined), Elf Wizard, and Dwarf Fighter.

Brad, that hammer is badass! Can't wait to see it in person. I'm building a helmet for the GT run at Gen Con. Fingers crossed it turns-out as cool as your hammer.

I try to throw on a little something, depending on what class... got a nice rogue cloak, Paladin armor set, etc... and have a bit of fun. I also have a few of the class t-shirts I change into to match my character.

I like to have a bit of fun.

You do indeed, Mongo. Looking forward to our upcoming runs! Are you bringing any pieces from the armor in your avatar pic?

I hope to. I brought a little with me on my trip but don’t have everything and I am traveling straight to Columbus from down south.

For GenCon, it will depend on how much stuff my sons bring... if I can put some items in their suitcases I will bring more.

Last year, our group cosplayed in TD for the first time. I liked it a lot. It was a good fit, especially with the expanded townscapes. It made the game more immersive, and we did role play more, especially in our interactions with the NPCs.

It’s not for everyone, but I would encourage more people to give it a try.

I want to see a party go through dressed in Federation uniforms ala an 'away team'.
