TOPIC: GenCon 2019 housing

GenCon 2019 housing 5 years 7 months ago #1

For those that prefer security of having a room downtown over trying your luck with the housing lottery:

The Conrad and the Crowne Plaza both are allowing reservations for during GenCon 2019. I didn't get around to checking the other hotels.

Not sure how long they'll last and of course whether they'll honor them, but it is worth a try.

Good luck!

I'm not sure if they were cheaper earlier, but it looks like 482 and 428 /night respectively.

This was the first time in years I wasn't able to get Embassy Suites out of Block. It seemed to jump straight from unavailable to $800+ per night, unless I missed the window.

I think it has to do with the merge rbetween SPG and Marriott. The points systems and some back end stuff happened on Aug 18th. I was trying to book the same Marriott as last year and it's more than double the price. When I spoke to someone they said that most rooms that far ahead have gone back to rack rate until they can iron everything out.

I don't think that would effect Embassy though, since it's a Hilton property. Even the last couple of years there was only a short window before the prices jumped to $800 or more per night, maybe this year they got smart and just had them all jump up to that price. I think my friend was able to get a backup room for us somewhere though. Hopefully one of us will get lucky in the block and get an early enough time to grab the Embassy Suites. :)
