TOPIC: GenCon 2020 VIG Lottery

I have tried this for 5 years straight
I’m 0 for 5,
I also know people who got it
1st time trying and for there 1st GC too.
I’m just about ready to Forfeit.

Did I get the room number wrong? Sigh...

Sis there any market for resale? I’ve never tried but if someone wanted to pay for it I could try.

It's tied to your Gen Con account and the email / name for that account. You could transfer it, but it would be a pain, against their terms of service, and you'd lose your low ID number .

You wouldn’t just lose the low ID number, you would be banned from ever returning to Gen Con, along with the buyer, to my understanding.

Ok so not worth it but I didn’t know how it worked.

sounds like without the desire for the downtown hotel it would not be worth it to me.

I hated the early-access to the trade hall. Most vendors weren't open, and were unwilling to sell or even chat. I suppose getting in before the major rush was okay, but at that point, they could have just let you in 20 minutes prior.

The hotel block access is worth its weight in gold. It is the #1 reason to go VIG. Next would be the VIG lounge. Everything else are nice to haves, but not necessarily epic. Well, except when they used to do premier events in the lounge. Playing Drizzt in a D&D session with R.A. Salvatore DMing was kinda neat

I was 75% done writing the email before I realized they dont want them until November 15th.

I do like how they choose the VIGs each year, though. They take all the names that requested it and roll a D20. If you get a 20, you make it to the next round. The continues until there are only the number of people on the list that rolled 20's equal to the number of VIG tickets available. It sounds like the total number of VIG passes is static, just replacing those that drop it or if there is an increase, it is only by a few people each year (maybe +10 or so).

I've put my name in 4 years straight (learned about it a few years in) but no luck so far. Hopefully, this is the year.

I'd love to see them auction off a couple for charity. That would raise a great deal of money for a good cause.

To enter the random selection process for the 2020 show please send your Gen Con ID number, name, and the email associated with that account between November 15 and December 8, 2019 to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will enter you into the random selection process. You must have a Gen Con account to enter. You must be 18 years old to purchase a VIG package.

We will be conducting the random selection in early January of 2020.
