I would love to go to Gen Con but there is an international travel ban in place for me.

So I've lost a fair amount of money this year in non refundable hotel and airfare bookings. Part of that is the travel agent I used has now gone under. I made all my bookings back in October way before this mess started.

I've taken a huge financial hit this year that is going to cut well in to my True Dungeon spending budget.

I do have things arranged for a trip to Pax in Melbourne this year, also non refundable tickets and hotel, I think that convention is going ahead, they also have not confirmed things either way. I suspect that a huge problem for them will be getting overseas companies in to be on the show floor.

Harlax wrote: As I said elsewhere, the better part of wisdom would be not to go. But I guess wisdom must be my dump stat, because I'm likely to go unless things get worse.. I have volunteered for 7 years and my application is already in for both GenCon and Origins.

I usually coach or train, so I'll be very interested in how we will rearrange those functions to protect volunteers and players. I'll certainly be wearing a mask and using a lot of hand sanitizer. If I'm coaching I'll be contemplating using gloves to handle tokens, but I'd have to bring a lot of them to use them properly.

I'll probably stay in the TD area exclusively to minimize the number of people I come in contact with. Enter at the closest entrance and leave the same way. It will be interesting to see how many entrances they have open and if they are really going to do temperature checks on everyone coming in.

GHC is in my plans too. If all goes well.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Brad, very sorry to hear about the financial hit from non-refundable bookings. I hope you're able to make Pax in Melbourne so you don't take a hit there also.

While I went to every TD con last year, and was hoping to do several this year, I'd lay money that I don't do any, or at least that I only do GHC (it's smaller, I can stay away from everyone most of the time, etc).

In the end, it will depend on several factors:

1) Are the cons open and are their states/cities allowing large-group activities?
2) at that point, have I been tested, do I have the antibodies, is there evidence that you are safe for at least a few months if you have them?
3) if no, what is the hospital situation in the host city, how are the locals doing on daily cases, etc. expect that the con will create a spike in cases - would they be able to easily handle that?
4) do I have insurance or Medicaid if I get sick?
5) will I be there in a role in which I can wear PPE? (social distancing would be impossible in most con scenarios)

If, by GHC or maybe rescheduled Origins, I feel good about most of those answers, I would probably go (particularly if I am having to be around the public at home as well, i.e. I am back to work).

I'll probably check in and see what the PAX Enforcers are saying about it, I imagine they're working on some pretty comprehensive measures if they don't shutter the PAXes completely.
I came here to sing and collect tokens, and I'm alllll out of money.

We've had four cons that we planned to go to this year that have already canceled, though they were all smaller cons that we had set up to be more a day trip than anything else (anyone ever been to Marcon, either recently or back in its prime?)

Gencon and Origins were really the last two we were holding on to for this year, both for the sake of playing True Dungeon, but our group recently made the call to back out of both. Two of our group work in the medical field and have been at the thick of it in their home state, so they made their decision to back out early. For a few more it has been financial reasons, for some medical. For my husband and I personally it's been partly the lack of any real information coming from any source (convention, medical, and the like) and partly we've both seen what it looks like when someone has a disease with no known cure and what it can do, and also helping to protect family members who are at risk. Do we want to go? Yes, of course. We look forward to Gencon specifically all year round. But our take is, for now at least, we are happier to wait to make sure we get the chance to go to conventions and events again in 2021, when there is hopefully more information to be had all the way around and when we can go with all of our friends and feel comfortable doing so.

My local game convention and origins are doing an online thing so I’ll try those but going to con itself not at this time. Can’t do origins in October cause of a high school reunion scheduled at this time . Ghc is maybe. Wait and see approach .

Origins in October and Boardgame geek in November are the only cons left on my list for this year.
I’ll do pax south again next year as well.

Hopefully everything is good enough by then to go to the conventions

I am glad gencon wasn’t in my plans this year already, in that respect I am lucky.

If GenCon happens and I think it's reasonably safe to do so, I plan on attending. I'll WFH for two weeks after the con, to make sure if I do get the con crud or worse, I don't spread it.

GameHole Con, I should definitely be at, if it happens. I will at the very least make sure to buy some swag and support them if it doesn't, because I've appreciated their frankness on their plans for the year.

I haven't decided about GenCon yet. It's largely dependent upon whether GenCon happens (obviously), what happens over the next 4-6 weeks, and what the convention would actually look like this year.

Outside of gaming with friends--the two main things I do at GenCon are the vendor hall and True Dungeon. I could see doing True Dungeon and feeling relatively safe. The vendor/dealer hall--not so much.

For me right now the answer is yes, but a lot is still up in the air. Almost all the events I was planning on going to have already cancelled.

Extra Life United
Origins
Charcon
Defcon
Most all of my face-to-face DnD Epic Game Days

If Gen Con stays open then I am going (I'm paying for my badge next week after I get paid). How long the adventure will be for depends on a lot. I could go for the whole weekend, but could just as easily plan it so I max my time there in 1-2 days. For me this convention depends on what they do to keep everyone as safe as possible. If they do their part (which I'm sure they will) then I will do mine (sanitizer/mask/and all). Besides I've been wanting to make a Kenku Bard Cosplay, and this gives me an excuse to buy a plague doctors mask. lol

For True Dungeon Specifically I miss playing SOOOO much. I don't post much, but I'm keeping an eye out regularly. Where they set up I want to pop in.
