You wouldn’t need 24 minutes - it could be done in 12 with the right type of puzzle. The hindrance would be no FA during combat until the puzzle is solved.

To prevent people from riding out the room by slow rolling rounds, the monster attacks outside of normal rounds in addition to normal attacks between rounds.

On alternating 30 second intervals an aoe burst comes from the puzzle to people working on it then an aoe attack from the monster attacking.....get caught in between areas and take 1.5 times the damage....area marked off on the floor.
Fall down......Go boom!

Casters typically have things to do with free actions.

Martial classes typically do not.

If you’re designing a room for the purpose of reducing caster effectiveness, this is one way to do it.

If you’re trying to create a universally challenging circumstance - do something else.

No real need to stop the free actions...you want to cast go to the dm and lose puzzle time. No need to stop free actions.
