Wasn't Pax South the early one? GaryCon happens around that time but is likely too small.

What convention might make sense pre-June to replace Pax South in the future for TD? Pax east maybe?

I have no problem with TD skipping Origins. Give them some time to see if they take running a con (or GAMA itself) seriously and fix the litany of problems they have. Maybe they will but I'm not sure of it - Brissaud is still there running GAMA and their board is incredibly dysfunctional. I feel bad for the people who have the jobs to actually make the convention work because the environment there looks terrible.

I really do believe Genghis Con in late February would be a great fit. Center of the country, easy to get to, pulled in RPEX this year, well run, and could use a big draw event to justify moving to a larger venue (Denver has many). They could easily be as good and similar size to GHC if something like TD jumped on board. That would fill the replacement of PAX South for sure.

Totally agree! Gencon is just too huge for me. It's overwhelming. Origins, for me, is just the right size. And it's where I and my son were introduced to the madness that is TD.

(all refrencing pre-Covid, mind you. This year's Origins was pretty sad, but still glad I went.)

How big is GenghisCon? I've not been able to find any firm numbers. Based on what I'm seeing though, I'd guess it is in the 1k-2k attendee range? While that is a great size for RPEX, I suspect it might be a tad small for TD. GHC is the smallest of the conventions that TD regularly attends at around 4k (I think. I could be off on that).

I also wouldn't really call Denver the middle of the country. It doesn't have nearly as large a population within driving distance as the midwest cities, which can pull from the NE and more. If the goal is to replace PAX South, then it feels like the new site should be in the South. TD was planning to go to Momocon before the world ended. Maybe that could still happen.

It would a dream to have a True Dungeon in Mammoth Cavern :) I know that the logistics of that are make it nigh impossible, but it would be a fantastic place to play.

I hope gencon has at least one new dungeon. ALSO having the 2 dungeons from GHC 2021 would be good, but might not be possible?
The suggestion to focus on VTD is...scary?...to me. I really don't want to focus on VTD. It's *fine*, but pales in comparison to in person TD.

Q: Will Felurian's Feast and Weird Magic be repeated at any 2022 conventions?
A: Both of these will be seen at Gen Con – as well as Darkhold Keep and perhaps another new module. Much depends on the number of volunteers. We will be back at our old spot in Lucas Oil Stadium.

I love Origins because of the size of the Con compared to others as well as the walkability and of course the food. It the “Just right” size for things to do and not so large that it’s impossible to do anything.

Genghis has been growing but sold out and ran out of room in 2020. I think it was like 1600 or more. But I don't know the exact number. It is in the same space for 2022 simply due to being unsure about numbers still during COVID times. Mainly they are looking for a big event draw like TD to push them into a larger venue.

When I say Denver is central I mean for flying purposes. Most any decent sized airport in the country flies directly into Denver with decent air fairs. I've had a few friends mention how surprised they are at how cheap flights to Denver are from where they live in the East and Midwest. In some cases it would cost about as much to drive.

It very well could be a chicken or the egg thing, but you never know. Denver can and will support a bigger con. Denver Comic Con (or whatever they decide to call it each year) is pretty massive. The city holds like 5-6 game conventions each year and Genghis is the biggest. I really believe it can be similar to GHC if it could just get a reason for others (Like TD fans) to travel to it.
