Hypothetical: Let's say there are two chests at Gen Con. One has the standard treasure mix with no curses and the other has curses, but a slightly (and I do mean slightly) better treasure mix.
  1. Which would you pull from?
  2. Would your answer change if the mix was the same (i.e., not better), other than the curses?

As long as the UR+ percentage were the same or better, I'd pull from the cursed box. I think the curses are fun.

However, if they are only loose pulls (i.e. no wrapped 20 packs), I'd be pulling a few per run. My general pull luck usually isn't good and I doubt I'd want to stand around and pull 23 tokens, 1 at a time, for every run. So my question would be, will there be 20 packs of treasure that include curses?

(Fortunately, if that’s the right word, they were all the Cursed Fork of Gluttony. I main Barbarian, so having to hold a mirror in my melee offhand slot would be a real PITA.) I’ll work off these curses at Gen Con and don’t particularly want to draw any more. Even for a somewhat “better” treasure mix.

Keep in mind, remove curse removes it (even just a scroll of woe.) People playing the curses are doing it for fun :)

Yeah, but I’d have to find a friendly Bard, Cleric or Druid willing to un-curse me. (I do have a stack of Scroll Remove Woe, so all they’d be out is a Standard Action.)

IMO curses make the mix better all by themselves by creating more opportunities for fun interactions. I would pull from the curse box every time XD

I'd go cursed box at all times I think.

Now, if I could transfer these curses to some of "friends" that would be ideal.

Seriously, if you don't want to participate, then don't. No need to waste a scroll removing the curse, just pretend you never got one. It's all an honor system anyway. I think they're fun and I plan to proudly endure my curse at Gen Con.

Situation 1 (curse box with slightly better treasure) I'd pull from the curse box

Situation 2 (curse box with same treasure) I'd pull from the curse box

Situation 3 (The whole freaking box is nothing but curses) I'd pull from the curse box

Also let me just add - I second/third/fourth/whatever the general idea that if a curse box exists it should be a choice. Me pulling 25 curses is hilarious to me. A newbie pulling a curse in their three treasure is a travesty to some and might ruin their experience.

I would 100% support it.

I also recommend that the UR, etc rates not change. By, "slightly better," include an equal number of special good tokens to equal the curse tokens. By "special good," I am thinking something that gives you a silly (but slightly useful) blessing (figure blessing as the opposite of curse.)
Example:
Blessing of karma - you may re-slide once during your run
Blessing of riches - you get +1 treasure draw
Blessing of quickness - you get the jump on your enemies and are +2 to initiative for your next run (only applicable until X date.)
Blessing of power - you are 5th level for your next run
Blessing of trickery - you confuse your attacker and force them to reroll a single attack

I think “the everything else not in another type” of transmute clause would mean that curses transmute into darkwood plank

After sleeping on it a bit, I would not recommend a separate curse mix. Use the same mix, sprinkle in a few courses, leave it at that.

Remember all the complaining caused by wirts cache because people missed out, would have done something different if they has known, didnt get anything good, got to much good, or just got mad whatever item was more common now.

If the mix is different never tell us.

One big difference between now and back when we had Wirt's box.... The number of treasure draws not coming from runs done at the convention. If GC is the only in-person convention someone is going to this year, they might have a few hundred treasure pulls from pirate maps for example. I think that may mean a "clean" box is needed.
