TOPIC: Different Volunteer Tokens

Different Volunteer Tokens 4 years 6 months ago #1

Wanted to post this as a separate thought from the Recipe and QTR threads.

I don't know how I feel about the idea of having different volunteer tokens at different conventions. I dont think I like it very much. I dont know if it will inspire more volunteers or not.

I dont care for the non-GenCon tokens. The UR pants are in the slot that will often be filled by a kilt, and are only 1 Dex higher than the Blessed Pants of the Hare. The shirt will likely be eclipsed by whatever comes in line with Shirt of the Oaf, a current planned multi year transmute.

I think the idea may be good, but I'm not certain. I think the tokens are not a great plan unfortunately.

I kinda like the idea of different tokens.
1. For those of us who volunteer at multiple conventions, it seems like a better incentive.
2. Even if I don’t want to use the tokens, their value will be higher because there won’t be as many of the same tokens out there. You’ve seen the behavior, the first want to get their volunteer token up for sale gets the most and as more and more become available in the market due to multiple conventions, the value decreases substantially.

I don't like the different volunteer tokens but if they are going to do it the pants are just so meh. I would rather see a reprint of something as a volunteer token or something, its just ugg.

As someone who volunteers multiple conventions I both like and not like the idea of different volunteer tokens. I'm a player first and i like having the extras for various builds or for me who does part time/full time i like 1 volunteer token as that way i can be sure to get the UR at whatever con takes my full time commitment.

That said i know in not a few cases some of us would like the option of a token credit instead of the token. The ability to get an set UR i'm missing or even sets of other con's completion tokens would feel much more value to me as a player who volunteers. Especially these days with the multitude of completion tokens.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I like the idea.

GHC will be my third volunteer con this year. I don’t need three of the same volunteer token.

It would be really nice to have a pool of two or three to choose from at each con, but that would be a logistical nightmare.

I love the idea of different volunteer tokens being printed for different cons. That being said, not sure I love the shirt and pants themselves. XD

Conceptually I think this is a fantastic idea. Ultimately with the increase in conventions it’s a great way to help encourage people to volunteer more. Unfortunately I think that it maybe a little early for the execution in 2020, and I think the Non-GenCon tokens are underwhelming.

For the last two years the volunteer tokens have been physical stat charms, with this next year to be the culmination, hitting arguably the best physical stat, making it pinnacle of the three. Which means, on the secondary market, it will already be the most valuable. Adding to that the new scarcity of the upcoming charm, being the only way to get it is from a convention that never hurts for volunteers, seems unfortunate.

And there seems to be a lot of pants lately, and a volunteer token that is only slightly better than a Transmute seems kinda rough.

I mean I am probably wrong, and this is really my first time expressing a opinion on a forum, and it won't effect my volunteering one way or another, but I guess I feel strong enough to share, so yeah...

I'm not a volunteer for TD, though I have been for other games. Convention rewards in my past experience have allowed the vol to choose or just been store credit. If I were a TD vol, which I may be some day, I would want to have the choice, as I would be in on the (Greater) Garnet Charm, not so much on the panther items.

I would like the option of a token credit instead of the token. I think it would be a benefit for TPTB as well since they wouldn't have to come up with different tokens each season. There is also the side benefit of really ensuring the recipient values their token choice. For example, the + STR tokens aren't so great for me since I play Wizard almost exclusively. I don't waste a charm slot boosting strength.
I still LOVE volunteering and I do appreciate the benefits even if I won't use them in my build. I do sell them so earn a little extra money which I usually just put right back into tokens, :)

I like the idea of the option of a Token credit instead of a dedicated volunteer Token.
