TOPIC: Two bound souls

Two bound souls 4 years 3 months ago #1

I had an idea for a mechanic. Soul binding.

While filling out the party card two players wearing a soul binding token may identify each other as bound souls. If bound, they activate the stats on the token. Soul binding means that if one dies the other also instantly dies. This allows people to role-play all types of kinship with an in-game impact.

For such a high cost I imagine something as below but trust the forums to balance the power for our meta and economy.

Bound ring of heroism (rare)
+1 level if character is bound to another player. Multiple bound effects do not stack.
Players cannot be bound to more than one person.

Cool idea! Worth exploring..

Something somewhat similar exists. In an Artifact.

D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I think it is an interesting idea but I don't think the rarity level is right for something so powerful as a level bump. Currently at UR a lvl bump cost you multiple slots. The negative here doesn't seem so much more worse than than the loss of multiple slots. In high level builds where you are not likely to die it is equal to a Ring of Heroism. Just my two cents.

Good point. I don't really have my head set on a level bump. Just something "good" to compensate instant death, but I want it to be a rare token anyone can get at.

Something like +3 con would work. For most players that would be 8-10 hp, but with a potential life related drawback

Interesting idea... but be careful. Rule 34 of the internet. Some "bound" types:

parent-child
lovers
dom-sub
master-apprentice
Royalty-servant
Life debt (Han-Chewie)
Siblings
Someone in power, usurper
etc.

Possible solution of folks can't agree upon classes. Both get it play it. And both suffer the effects of the other.

Sorry? I am not following was there discussion of not agreeing about classes somewhere here? Or are you suggesting this an alternative to the suggested ability.

Both.

Gemini effect - benefit of +1 level. Bane both suffer the same. One gets hit. The other feels it.

If you can't agree on class then you obvious want to play the same. So gemini makes sense here also.

I like the suffer the same. playing the same class has too many issues that has been discussed previously.
