Well, that's done. For anyone interested, the GHC housing portal opened today at noon. I wish you didn't have to wait for a confirmation email, but otherwise it was easy enough.

Got mine too. Half a mile from the con. Unfortunately, the connected hotel was not an option that was available.

Besides The Clarion not being on the list, it looks like Home2 Suites and Comfort Inn are already sold out.

Still lots of good hotels in Madison that are close to the Convention Center, but the ones in walking distance appear to be going fast.

Sheraton is available, and about $80 a night cheaper than my booked rooms from 4 months back

Yeah, Sheraton and Holiday Inn Express are the two still technically within walking distance that are available. Although parking is so easy, I end up driving from either of them (weather can by iffy in late October).

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in 2019. It was totally fine. We still drove over to the convention center—because tokens are heavy and it can get cold in Madison in October. But it takes less than 5 minutes. The Sheraton’s portal rate was $20/night cheaper than the Holiday Inn, so I booked the Sheraton for 2021.

Anyone know the cancellation policy for these hotels booked through the portal? I'm just concerned that if I book a room and I'm unable to get a badge (because of limits on the number sold due to covid, or whatever) that I'll be on the hook for a hotel room I no longer need.

Just received my hotel confirmation; so that took about 3 business days as they suggested.
