TOPIC: Rarity Marks Idea?

Rarity Marks Idea? 1 year 2 weeks ago #1

I think we have the time to add some helpful marks to the tokens to help folks who might have issues with telling Commons from Uncommon tokens -- etc.

I think it can be accomplished simply by using our pre-existing "non standard token" dots -- only just show one of them. See example.

Thus, all Commons won't have a mark at all.

All Uncommons will have a single dot on the left side of the Trade token initials.

All Rares will have a single dot on the right side of the Trade token initials.

All Ultra Rares have the star-dimples instead of the round dimples.

All Participation tokens and all but two of the Volunteer tokens are Rares so they double dots shown will just mean they are non-standard collection tokens. The other two Volunteer tokens are URs and they have the star dimples.

I understand that this marking system is not readily apparent, but for the folks who need it -- it should work great while not adding any more design elements to the tokens.

This is a great idea Jeff. It will help those who have trouble with colors.

Simple, and easy to understand. I like it. Will deff help those who are color blind

I think the system will work as a colorblind person, its not perfect but it would get the job done. If your goals are something that works, is simple for you to implement and takes minimal space then this will do.

I'd suggest making all Volunteer Tokens denoted by stars rather than dots since they have the biggest differences in price to their counterparts. And a Vol Rare is much more special than a normal rare

My only other easy to implement suggestion is always add a symbol to the bottom like we have on transmutes. For example
● Common
⯅ Uncommon
■ Rare
⬟ Ultra-Rare

⯅ could be confusing with enhanced transmute symbol. I recommend using no symbol for common and then just don't use the triangle. Ex:

Common (no mark)
● Uncommon
■ Rare
⬟ Ultra-Rare

Actually I wanna change my volunteer token notation suggestion for the original system since URs also share a star.

Have volunteer rares denoted by a single ✶icon where it would normally be

Have URs denoted by 2 ★ icons

Have Vol URs denoted by 2 ✶icons

This suggestion can be ignored if endgame or I's other suggestion is used, cause the dots would work fine in that scenario, but I'd still try to differentiate vol rewards from completion rewards cause of how special they are.

I know to me these look vastly different, I would still advise using different shapes or doing a double star on each side for vol UR. If I wasn’t wearing my glasses, and my contacts were dry, it could look the same. Not trying to nit pick

If the original system is kept, how about:

Have volunteer rares denoted by a single ♥ icon where it would normally be

Have URs denoted by 2 ★ icons

Have Vol URs denoted by 2 ♥ icons

Again, we could largely ignore this if we used the single rarity symbols suggested by endgame or I. Or always mark vol tokens with 2 ♥ icons instead of dots. And 2 dots for completion in either of those systems.

I like it much better. I do agree that a single rarity marker is most likely a better one. The issues I see is with the method above a double up top on a UR on a transmute path would require a 3rd mark for relic and a 4th for legendary which then can be expanded further to 3-5 pt relics paragon etc. I guess we should set parameters. Is this for ONLY C / UC / R / UR ? If so then both methods above work quite well. If we have to set up a visual marking system for everything then I think it has to be a single marking on each to not get too confusing for newer players

The proposed dot system seems very similar (and easily confused) to the TBO symbols, at least to me.

Why do UR and higher need any sort of markers when they already have stars on the rim of the token and can't be turned into trade goods? Thought the point of this was to help ease the difficulty when turning things into mulch?

I want to preface this that I can see the colors, so that isn't an issue for me. I have been happy to have the dots to mark special TBO tokens. But if there is a rarity marking system, here are my thoughts...

I don't like the left and right dots at the top, that is too similar to the established TBO marking.
I love the heart symbol for volunteer tokens if that can be done.
I don't like 'no symbol' as a default for common, as that is what all tokens currently have. I prefer no symbol to mean 'before rarity symbols started'.

Maybe use different shapes on a single side of the trade good initials.
this is not a signature.
