One way to do a power up mechanic is to make it only work in 2027 with a keyword that only triggers when we are on a plane that allows for the benefit and downside.

For example if we say we are in the VOID as a space holder name. Make the extra ability and detriment only occur on that plane.

I would like to see wands come back as permanent once per room wands so this would be an example of my idea in action.

Wand of focus
UR
Does 20 damage to target creature
If in void you may add focus to wand damage and take a dark consequence.

For a possible tome
Book of dark power
Gives 1 point cantrip spell +half your spell damage bonus
In void you may do full spell damage bonus and take a dark consequence

A bit late but can be a possible idea for future years.

Tome of Void Whispering Strength
May Take 4 damage to +2 STR for rest of adventure (1/game).
If INT is >=20, you may do this ability once per room instead.

I was trying to think of a way to incorporate INT more with the game (as nothing seems to be happening with it for the time being). Also trying to think of a way to incorporate using otherworldly items that would slowly hurt you, but could buff you as well.
Not sure if this would be too powerful, or can be broken, but if anyone has a good idea that can go along with it (or good criticism), please feel free to share.

I love the idea, but TD has generally not done tokens which change stats for more than a single room, because there’s no decent way to track it.

If you hand in a potion of Bull Strength to your DM in one room, they can add your extra to-hit and damage to any slides you make (and often write it on the combat board to help them remember), but it goes away at the end of the room, so no changes are made to the Party card.

If you made permanent increase, how will the DM in the next room know you used an item which increased your STR score? Do you pause to change the party card? That takes precious time, and opens up the possibility of players making changes to their own party cards between rooms. Or do you just verbally inform every DM of the change? There’s a lot of potential problems with that, too.

It’s a cool idea, but not practical with current constraints.

I do like the idea of paying an HP cost use an item, tho, and like the way some of the proposed 2027 tokens do so :)
