TOPIC: Least popular classes for Sealed Pack runs

What character classes are least likely to be picked by new folks in Sealed Pack PUG runs?

I ask because I've signed up for a Fang & Fury run, tend to arrive early, and want to pick a class that I like but that is also less likely for someone new to have wanted. Two years ago, Raptorov mentioned that for general PUGs "I have noticed during coaching, the three least popular classes are Elf Wizard, Wizard, then Monk. Most popular is cleric, then Ranger and maybe Rogue, " Would that be the same for Sealed Pack PUG runs?

This doesn't answer your question directly, but when it comes to new player groups or PUG groups, I usually like to play Bard since you typically don't slide, you just "sing" to help everyone. Or I like Cleric because again you're helping everyone.

But what I really like is to let everyone else pick and then I pick last. Often it's a class I never or rarely play, then I have to at least figure out the basics and usually end up learning something new...hehe.

With the exception of Rogue (because everyone likes extra treasure) I would generally think the classes that require skill tests are least popular. However, the other exception to this are veteran players who are comfortable with the skill tests. I normally play a wizard class, so going that class in a sealed pack run pretty much guarantees me the extra 3 points of damage.

Bard and cleric are the least favorite for me because I can never get the hang of passing those skill tests.

For PUG runs especially sealed pack, I just pick last of what is available. I tend to end up being a Bard, Cleric or Wizard on these runs, but I have ended up as a Monk as well. You just never know and I find it fun to run classes I normally don't play.

I think the spellcasters are less favored if the sealed pack run is mostly new players.

As an aside I do love the token trading that takes place during coaching on these runs!

As a coach I have found it really comes down to what tokens have been pulled in the group. Due to the packs being more likely to have a sword, ax or bow, people gravitate to the fighter, barbarian,ranger builds. Most of the time bard, druid, or cleric are the last ones chosen due to the lack of available tokens. Wizards are the next least chosen. As stated above, if I am on a run that is mostly new players, I try to help build their characters with what tokens we open and then take the one that is left. I look to chose a character that will help support the group so that their experience is as enjoyable as possible. It is also fun to be able to sit back and watch and remember the feeling of when I went on my first adventure. Sometimes it is more enjoyable than killing the monster.

This is LITERALLY my most favorite thing about True Dungeon. When I'm walking down the hallway and see people on my left and right trading tokens from ten packs, an overwhelming feeling of joy overtakes me. I have to fight back tears. Completely being serious...

In normal games I tend to pick melees because my token collection has been steered towards melee-oriented classes. However, when I play sealed-pack games, I almost always go for a spellcaster, just to change things up and see how the other half live.

I don't think I've ever done a sealed pack run, except for 2005 which was pretty much a sealed pack run for us because I don't think we brought any of the tokens we got from our 2003 or 2004 runs with us. We probably should have done the one at Ring Con while we were there.

I tend to pick the Monk because they don't get many tokens in the 10-pack, new people tend to shy away from that class, and I like the monk.
However, I usually end up giving away about 6-7 of my tokens to help others, and rarely get anything back in return. So I just go in knowing I might only have 3-4 tokens from my pack when I leave. Not really an issue for me, and I want newbies to walk out with extras so they get excited to play again, but might be an issue for others.
