Re: Real Lives 13 years 3 months ago #13

I have a master's degree in library science, with a focus on youth services, and am trying to get a job as a children's or young adult (teen) librarian. I worked as a youth services assistant in a library before I got married and moved to Indy. Currently, I work in one of the fulfillment centers for Amazon here in Indy, packing boxes. I have also worked for the Census bureau, AMC movie theaters, Meijer both as a cashier and in the deli, a fast-food restaurant in the Chicago area called Portillo's, at a Girl Scout daycamp, and as a babysitter.

I am in Quality Control at a Medical Device Manufacturer. I have a BA in Microbiology.
Strange: My resume includes the following; Paperboy (5 years), ice cream store clerk (6 years), Quality Control (21 years).

But I haven't decided what I want to do when I grow up. I'd love to design games, but reality says start a vineyard/orchard.

I work for Walgreens as a service clerk. Also as part of my job there I am the Hallmark card specialist. That means that from November 1st to February 14th is especially interesting/busy.

I am a Speech and Language Pathologist. IF you don't know what it is it would take 30 minutes took explain everything I do (from medical to educational). I am also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. I have a BS in Linguistics, MS in Communication Sciences and Disorders and am plodding my way along to finish my PhD with research on AAC and autism treatment.

I teach English and Humanities at a four year art college. I do so half time, now, because my other job is helping care for my two kids. I have a Ph.D. in Creative Writing and spend a lot of time writing as well...

I am sure most of you know this, but I run Gamingetc.com which is also pokecorner.com and yugiohetc.com. What most of you may not know...I travel around the world selling magic cards With Wizards of the Coast. I am one of the few Companies they take with them to their large events. A few weeks ago I went to Paris and March 15th I leave for Japan. I love Japan I think everyone should save their money to go to Japan. Totally worth it.

Little known fact. I live 160 miles away from our store/warehouse, because if I lived closer I would kill them all =)

I live and work in Japan at a private junior/senior high school. I teach English and P.E. Immersion in the junior high and English in the high school. I have been doing this for the past 12 years.

Before that (and in-between) I delivered newspapers, flipped hamburgers
(only for one day!), refereed intramural sports at Uni, performed data entry, and worked for an inventory company.

My hobbies include gaming (didn't see that one coming, did yah?), playing hockey (ice hockey for you Yanks), and making my wife's life miserable. My dreams, in chronological order: taxi driver (when I was 5), police officer (when I was 10), owner of a professional hockey team (15), accountant (19), teacher (25). I love what I do even though it drives me crazy most days. Why? I guess another hobby of mine is being masochistic.

I come home (Canada) every summer for a month to be with family and friends. I go hiking, fishing, biking and eat a lot of mom's home cooking.

Network Engineer. I own my own company now and keep companies like a distributed radiology office up and running. My clients run the gamut from courier, lawn care, trucking, appraisal, and all the way to the aforementioned radiology. I do anything from replacing a power supply on a system to reprogramming and installing a Cisco router that controls a state wide/nation wide network. Whatever it takes to keep them up and running and making money.

As to my past employment, I have done whatever it took to pay the bills. This has included; chef, lawn care, construction, security, bar tender, bouncer, facilities management, and more. Finally decided to start my own business in the field that kept drawing me back.

Hey, just saw this thread - nice to know we all have real lives!

I'm an IT Director for a smallish suburb of Minneapolis/St. Paul. I end up being responsible for anything that plugs into the wall, including servers, workstations, phones, copiers, space heaters, etc. I end up with lots of "Hair on Fire" days (my hair's on fire, and YOU gotta fix it!)

I'm the director of a genomics research center, and a research assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biology.

My work history is probably typical for the field. In reverse chronological order, I was a: postdoc, postdoc, postdoc, graduate student, undergraduate student, and a theater usher.

I'm a Manager of Program Design for Kaplan Higher Education. I build vocational programs for our 72 nationwide campuses. It is a mixture of instructional design and project management. I'm working to get my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification this year (mostly so I can wear a fur coat and a feathered hat). In previous incarnations I've been an instructional designer, a traveling business consultant, a high school speech and theatre teacher, a tutor, a music director for youth musicals, a Starbucks barista, a shoe sales clerk, an administrative assistant, a mail room monkey, an IT technician for a small college, and the guy at the driving range who drives the armored ball collector (for about two days).

As for home life, I've got three kids and two ferrets. My baby-momma and I are getting hitched up next month. After a 14 year romance, three kids, and house, we figured it the next logical conclusion.
