I know I can't do the description justice, because Henwy is the best one to describe it.
In short a bunch of people line up, then 8 (or is it 10) sit behind a table, and the Hickmans come up with this killer dungeon and then try to kill off all the players. Each round they send up an impossible monster for first level character. Each person then says how they are going to survive the slaughter. The funniest responses (and they are elaborate involving zombie make up, cardboard cutouts, elaborate lies, etc.) live, the rest, they die, and people come up from the line.

If you search Youtube for "hickman's killer breakfast" you will see some past outtakes of this hillarious event - just don't do it at work, laughing coffee through your nose will cause you to immediately be spotted as a slacker.

Probably the best video explaining what is going on is the saftey briefing video.

I love cosplay! I've never done it myself before this year. I'm trying to put together a Vlad from the Hack/Slash comics, but I'm stumped on a few parts so it may not happen. A buddy of mine is going as Fry from Futurama (though I still think he should go as Scott Pilgrim instead).

It really is amazing the effort and detail that some people can put into their costumes!

Also I'm thinking about doing a TerrorWerks run to see how the TD "competition" holds up.
:(

I was also thinking about trying out a terrorwerks event. It is only one hour though. The one I am signing up for is:

LRP1120743 on Friday at 9am.

Any other TDers are welcome to join me for this.

I'm potentially in that one too! Weeeeeiird....

Too bad about the Three Dragon Ante - I'm working during that particular hour on each of the days. I wish they had staggered it a little bit more.

I'm happy about all the writing workshops this year. I've signed up for a couple of freelance writing groups, to learn some more tricks of the trade.

I also volunteer, so I have only three mandatory events.
TD, Rising, and Terrorwerks. They are the three things I can do nowhere else.
As far as how Terrorwerks stands up to TD, they really are totally different games. TW features airsoft firefights, which are cool if you are a soldier character. You have a mission to solve, but it is heavily dependent on the GM Marine Commander to tell you what to do. I have yet to have a firearm. The first year I was a medic type who tied on healing bands on wounded players. Last year, I was one of 3 engineers, (that is until they said engineers get no guns) But as the only engineer, I had to decode the electronic locks on all the door, diffuse the timebomb, and then re-arm the bomb to destroy the alien ship. So I was busy. Basically it is a series of rooms you have to move in an out of. If you expect TD quality puzzles, you will be disappointed. It was better last year, but lots of things don't have meaning.

As far as Rising, the zombie combat LARP, it is a true LARP with boffer melee weapons and nerf guns. Props are very basic and much is left to imagination. But whereas TD combat is simulated, and TW combat is basically totally honor-system since you have to be honest when nearly invisible projectiles hit you, Rising combat is light tap contact. "one damage" is the call for melee, and "two damage" the call for a nerf dart. Zombies swing wildly, and have five hit points. Players have armor points based on what they are wearing, but when thats depleted you have one hit point. after four hits, and four first aids (different colored bands tie to your extremities by the medic) you become a zombie player.
There are "samples" you take from dead zombies on a three count, and try to make anti-serum out of to cure infected players, and basic skill puzzles to represent unlocking doors or decoding things, but its very sparse, and heavily relies on visualization. But if you have a good group, its a hoot.

Terrorwerks is fun, you get to run around. It is still pretty basic, and you really don't get the whole story. It was better this year then last, but I would say it is like a disorganized basic TD. I think that they are improving it, but there is just too much choas. Too many players, too few judges and way too much on your honor system. They had a story this year, but it involved one of the players locking himself in a room with the NPC while the rest of us just ran around. At least this year the judges gave us more amo when we ran out, the first year once you were out, which was in like the first 5 minutes, you were out. I recommend this game, as long as you know what you are getting into.

That rising game sounds really cool, I always wondered if I would survive a zombie plague...

Because of this thread, my friends and I grabbed 8 slots in a Rising adventure, it sounds like fun! I pray to God Rising doesn't sell Tokens!! ;)
