This sounds closer. But the DM didn't roll for chance of hit.

Maybe it was just the ultimate DM power - "because I said so!"

Literal 'invisible' wall? Did the bad guy move before you started hacking at him? Invisibility, especially 2nd edition invis, was a lot of fun. With some prep, you could make for a tactical nightmare.

Hilarious thought. But no, the A-hole was riding a spider and moving. I think wind wall is the closest. He took a blow from a sword and was injured.

There's Wall of Force but the DM sounds like he thinks it's something tricky, so I dunno

Yeah. He is definitely out to get us and he falls in love with his villains. He sometimes reminds me of that Community episode where Chevy Chase says, "We played Dungeons and Dragons and I won. And it was advanced!!"

Cube of Force, Face 2. If the monster was moving no more than 20', this fits your bill. Face 2 "keeps out nonliving matter", which would bar all arrows. However, a person (and his gear, as it is generally accepted*) could walk right through it to land a melee attack.

*For example, the "keeps out magic" setting prevents spells from entering, but not the magic sword and other magic items of someone attacking into the cube's area.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Ragewalker from the MM3 with its Repel Missiles ability, but that makes the missiles turn back and strike the player who shot/threw them.

Did the critter you were fighting induce players into a Barbarian-like frenzy when they were close to it? That's a Ragewalker.
