To add a bit more incentive, my partner and I are going to match the next 1k raised through this!

We'll work with Utaku to coordinate and handle the logistics. Happy tokening :)

This is pretty fantastic.

I find it very unfortunate that some people seem to think that there is a both sides here, or that republicans should be treated like a legitimate party at all anymore after this. He's an admitted adulterer, sexual assaulter, felon, riot inciter, and interferer in our elections and spreader of misinformation. None of that is up for debate or question. He shouldn't get a pass on all that crap and calling it out doesn't make you "political" - it makes you someone who is paying attention. Stating facts should not be something that bothers anyone or need to come with a trigger warning.

I think that it is unfortunate that too many people think there is only one side.

There are third party candidates, but that system is broken in the US right now. Hopefully, someday that won't be the case, but that's not right now.

I just wanted to say thanks for doing this! I'm mostly a lurker and just hang around in the forms but I wanted to at least say thanks for putting money and action to words. It's a good cause and I'm happy to go do some shopping there this week :)

I was referring to the main two parties, and the approximately 50% of the country that supports each of them. I also would love for there to be viable third parties, but the deck is really stacked against them.

I will second Mongo on this.

Completely understand across the board and thank you everyone for helping keep this discourse constructive. I can respect those that do not feel this is appropriate for the forum and although I don't agree, I understand the concern.

Because of this, I will keep my updates on the forums limited and for those who are interested in following how this progresses, you can find it here on my site: https://www.utakustradecaravan.com/never-trump

There are many things about both candidates that someone can complain about. I'm not saying which one I will vote for, but it doesn't matter here. Political fundraising should be kept out of our forums.

Utaku's post is not random fundraising, it's an announcement about his token store which seems clearly relevant to a community of potential token buyers. Each of us is free to use that information howsoever we choose -- perhaps to buy more tokens than we otherwise would have, or perhaps to buy fewer, or perhaps not to make any change at all in our buying habits, depending on how we feel about it.

One further observation: it would appear that the information offered here has value even to those who disagree with Utaku's intent; if there had been no forum post, those people would have no way of knowing that they might want to stop supporting his store for this reason.

For myself, this was a great opportunity to pick up the IS Champion's Choice I've been contemplating for a while now! :)

I strongly disagree with the sentiment that intelligent political discourse without vitriol should be avoided. The perspective to treat politics - especially during a big election as something to avoid is disappointing.

Elections impact our everyday lives. Cynicism and anger at the political system here too often results in apathy with people thinking it won't impact them but they are wrong.

Elections impact fundamental civil rights, disaster responses (pandemics, fires, hurricanes, etc..), election rights, tariffs impacting cost of goods, how (and if) we fight climate change, troops being deployed into dangerous areas, tax rates and what those taxes are used for, etc..

Specifically on this election - I fear the support of authoritarianism and desire to undermine democracy itself.

I support candidates that align with my values but at a fundamental level, I'd support anyone of either party that honors the rule of law, supports democracy, and clearly cares more about the country more than themselves. Bush senior earned a great deal of respect from me over the letter he left Clinton and how he helped Clinton transition into the role of President. I disagreed with his policies but couldn't question his character or care for the country. Clinton, Bush jr, and Obama all left similar heartfelt letters to their successors. Only one recent President hasn't.

Read those letters sometime. It will help you see how many of our Presidents have sacrificed a great deal and care deeply about the country and what it can represent. I'd recommend anyone who is undecided, read those letters and decide which current candidate is more like the ones who left those letters.
