Hey all,

I'm looking to finally get my Wii this wiikend. I'm looking for game suggestions. I plan to get T. Woods Golf and am looking for suggestions for another 2 or 3.

I would like at least one action game (i.e., Call of Duty, Red Steel, Medal of Honor, etc.).

Advise me. Oh, and I want to make sure the games use the expected Wii interaction, and not just the traditional controler.

Thanks!

Hi Stu,

I'd recommend renting some of the games to determine which ones you prefer, but I can tell you of the ones that I do own.

Just a preface, I bought my Wii purposely as a party game machine that I can drag around with me.

I have my own quirky choice in games.
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - You use the nunchuk attachment joystick for movement and shield blocking. You use the main Wiimote for sword slashing, thrusts, etc. Action/Adventure style game. My only problem with this (and a lot of other Wii games) is there is no true voice over.

Rayman Raving Rabbids - They use the Wiimote and nunchuk in all their flexibility. One of my favorite minigames is the cow tossing. You hold down the trigger and swing the Wiimote like a lasso and release to swing the cow across a field. Though it is not a very deep game, it does put the Wiimote through its paces.

Super Paper Mario - Another platform/action game. You use the Wiimote sideways like a controller, but on occasion you can use it to aim at objects on the screen for info. Not an innovative use of the Wiimote, but the game play is excellent, they take advantage of your 2Dness when doing the dimension flips (you spin the world 90 degrees) to fight in 3d mode for a period of time. It lets you get around obstacles and makes the world bigger.

Wii Sports - the DVD that came with the Wii. Tennis and Bowling are hands down my favorite games on this. Controls are responsive. I found the boxing to be delayed. Golf holds no interest for me, so I can't imagine how Tiger Woods Golf will do for you Stu. And the baseball is semi since all it is is forcing homerun hits or be forced out by automated ball catching.

I cannot give a review on Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, but I have heard Red Steel gets repetitive with it's sword action.

My next planned purchases will be:
Mario Party 8
That new Naruto game (Fighting) when I mod my Wii or it gets published here.

Games I heard are good:
Elebits is supposed to be constant aiming with the Wiimote flipping things around/over/upside down to find the "elebits".

Wii Sports (comes with it) is a lot of fun. We occasionally have a Martin family bowling night after Avery goes to bed! Tennis on there is also good.

Jeff really likes the Tiger Woods golf. I was really into Super Paper Mario for a while, but have been to busy recently to play. I'm "hoping" Drake gets the new Mario Party 8 (or whatever it's called) for his birthday! You can play up to 4 players, so that's cool. That's the one bad thing about SPM is that it's only 1 player.

We also got Wii Play because you got the remote with it.

I agree with "L5Geek_Noel"..rent them and see if you like them and then buy. We've rented a few and they weren't fun, so we skipped buying them. I think renting is a smart way to "test drive" the game.

Have fun!!!! I really think the bowling nights are the most fun.....we can all play, so it's more fun.

Lori

What do you guys think of having a Wii Party late behind the tavern area? :) Should we just bring our Wiimotes with our special Mii's?

well i have a wii, hope this advice isnt too late, but maybe you'll find some insight with it.

probably one of the coolest games for the wii i own is "Marble Mania", its kind of one of the unsung heroes for the console in my book. it is lot's of fun if you don't get motion sick easy as you tile the level with the remote to move the marble. it takes a lot of practice to get real good at. also the game is only $35 most are $50.

For 1 player games

Super Paper Mario: great game lots of side quests. probably 30 hours of solid story line game play.
Zelda Twilight Princess: It's zelda, it's hard to get an unbiased opinion here about if it is a good game or not. Some people say yes, others say no, and want to compare it to the N64 Ocarina of time. well it's not OoT but it certainly is a zelda game worth playing.

Multiplayer games

Wario Ware: Great party game. Has lots of mini-games you can play with friends in addition to the various play modes. Takes about 3 hours of solo play to unlock everything.

Mario Party: I have played and own previous games in this series but not the one for the wii. The previous ones have provided lots of entertainment for me and my friends. I'd suggest picking this one up if you have 3 or 4 people over for video games often. This game is on my must have list.

WiiPlay: a great way to get a 2nd controller if you don't already have them... Like Wii Sports this title is solid gold.

WiiSports: Now yeah you can do bowling, but another fun thing to do is go into the training and compete with friends for high scores. Just another idea to throw out there. If your friends like to golf the golf training levels can be quite competitive!

Yeah if you want the full experiance the Mario Party 8 is fun, I just picked up pokemon and really enjoy, although I am a poke-addict. The Dragon Ball Z game is really nicely set up. there are a bunch coming out that I can't wait for that intergrate the Ds and WiFi.
Its funny how something that takes multiple days to set up comes down in a few hours...

i just played the single player of mario party 8 and i am really disappointed in it. there is 1 really good map for multi-player. this mario party is definitely not as good as the previous ones =(

i'd definitely say rent mario party 8 first before buying. though mario party 6 or 7 for game cube would be more fun imo
