No thank you, comments here are enough to make me not want to see it. Doesn't sound like something I'd want to watch.

I'm with you. Even though I know that it is NOT based on history but is based on a comic book, the movie doesn't come across as NOT being a portrayal of history. Some of the things that turned me off of the movie were the elephants, that lack of breastplates, and the scene with the arrows sticking out of the spartan's shield (the arrows of the persians lacked the power to penetrate the spartan armor and shield, one of the key factors in the spartans being able to last as long as they did). While it may be great for some, to me it looks like a pile of crap (much like Sin City), so I'll pass on it.

It's just soft core gay porn. My friends tell me that everyone in that movie sets off the 'dar.

if sparta was still the same sparta of ancient times and they passed on their story from generation to generation, the movie would be folktale version of what really happened. i thought this was a very entertaining movie needless to say.

But having elephants would be like a bunch of old timers sitting around talking about how the North won the civil war with our helicopters and machine guns.

Give it 2000 years, and they may :-P Hehe.

Seriously though, I agree. I understand it's fiction, but it would be nice if it stayed historical fiction.

Does anyone know if they portrayed any of the other Greeks who were there, such as the 5,000 or so soldiers from the cities of Arcadia, Corinth, Mantinea, Mycenae, Phocis, Phleious, Tegea, and Thebes, Thespiae?

Also, I don't know about anyone else, but I find it highly amusing that a whole bunch of Thespians were at the Battle of Thermopylae!

Yes they portrayed the assortment of "freemen" from the other states joining the Spartans later in battle.

I liked the movie myself. I especially love the king overacting his part to the hilt. Not a girly movie for sure, unless you are there to ogle the boys.
Who says the North really won? Only the three Southern armies surrendered, not the political structure. The Confederate Government in exile down in Brazil still continues to exist to this very day. Also, the Confederate consulate still stands in Paris not far from the Republic of Texas consulate.
