I find it very strong and cheaper locally. Fortunately there is a distributor on the way to one of my plants.

gracias!

MM it is...come on April 7!

Hey does anyone want to start a Hirst Mold sharing group?

I mean for the price of shipping these things around - we would be saving a TON of cash...

*he says without a single mold to his name...*

You can get plaster o' paris cheap anywhere. It has only one good use in mold making I found.

When you first start, use it to practice a few times...getting the bubbles out, that sorta thing. If you can get most or all the bubbles out of that stuff, then the merlin's magic will be easy schmeezy.

As for drying, here's my tip...

Go get a cheapo food dehydrator. You can usually find something at a walmart for $25-40. Just air drying takes 24-48 hours sometimes, and I was never real comfortable with putting them on a cookie sheet, turning the oven on low, and letting them set in there with the oven door cracked open because you need the air flow too. And I don;t even have kids to worry about. The dehydrator runs 4-5 hours and it's all good.

Now for the molds...decide which 'theme' you want to go with. Futuristic, egyptian, brick, or fieldstone. Brick is probably the easiest. Get a couple, and make sure they've got the basic bricks in there. Wizards tower or dragon inn are good starters, with basic brick, one of the dungeon accessories or a floor tile as well. Play around, get addicted, THEN go buy 6 or 7 more at a time.

Have fun, and welcome to the addiction.
