TOPIC: Amorgen's Character Designer (Excel Spreadsheet)

Amorgen Burke wrote: I can understand that having the treasure count ahead of time will help keep the exit room smoother, but it adds yet an additional thing to the coaching area which varies in smoothness by the readiness and timeliness of the players. A bad experience at the start can set the tone for the entire adventure. The exit room last year seemed to work quite well, at least for each of my runs.

The bookends are both very important. Starting or ending on a bad note will affect the overall experience. I thought the way we were handling the treasure enhancers made sense as is since the coach could quickly indicate what tokens were present at the start of the adventure and then the total payout could be determined once the number of treasure stamps was known. IMHO.

Other than calling out, who has Charms and taking a count it should be something very easy to count now with the Hop=6 AoTF=4 RoR=3 and then Charm.

Would it be something you could put on your party card? With formula and all to calculate that number based on the Charms and such?

As Alvin mentioned, the HoP has been changed this year and needs to be changed in the spreadsheet also. It now provides a flat 6 bonus pulls. No items are based on the treasure bonus anymore. So it can be totaled up-front fairly easily.

I would expect a party having HoP/CoGF or CoA in some combination will either know how to lay out their tokens quickly and get into the dungeon or they will already have their party cards done.

Plus most coaches will give you +1 HP for having a party card/app filled out at least in Grind. I do think that would be a great standing bonus for having it all filled in for any TD run. That would push people to use the spreadsheet, or app to be prepared.

There are parties that do use the sheet and it works great. Unfortunately, some large token buyers end up on runs with newer players and you spend a great deal of time waiting as they equip everyone else. There are other large token buyers that don't use the spreadsheet at all and tend not to layout their tokens because they put them in books, etc.

I do like the incentive idea.

I'll think through the best approach for treasure counts in the spreadsheet.

I did a from scratch stat calculation for 3 people in one of the coaching rooms at WYC this year who just large binders full of tokens while our coach was working on some other folks.

I can tell you what I'm dreading most in coaching this year is the shier number of +str/+dex/+con tokens some people have. Granted the players I was helping were just about a worst case scenario in terms of complexity but the number of times you have to pass over those tokens when calculating melee/ranged/save bonuses is scary when considering the roughly 2-3 minutes you have per player.

TL;DR coaches are insanely busy given the amount of time we have per player.

All the more reason for us as a group to push the App or spreadsheet. We push it when we do the TD101 session, that it helps out coaches and is a great app for 2.99 or 3.99 can't recall.

If I have my build on a APP and show it to the coach it takes less than a minute to copy all my stats to the card, and move on to the next.

The app is just incredibly awesome. As is the spreadsheet.

Most of the those doing TD at Gen Con though do not do the prep work that we on the forums do. However if Jeff included something in the description of the adventure recommending a character card or to use the app. Then that might catch a few more people.

At WYC the one group I was in didn't have an overall party card. But several players had a printout for their class and the coach still gave them a bonus HP since they just had to copy to the party sheet.

Yeah I think a unified party card is unlikely for most GC runs, but individuals can still 'build' a character or two for GC. It is possible that you will not play that character but still is better than nothing.

In Grind if you have a sheet or the app with your data for easy entry you get +1hp (which won't save you in grind much), and I think that's a small bonus that would be great even in TD, to get people to help the coaches out.
