I can tell you what I'm dreading most in coaching this year is the shier number of +str/+dex/+con tokens some people have. Granted the players I was helping were just about a worst case scenario in terms of complexity but the number of times you have to pass over those tokens when calculating melee/ranged/save bonuses is scary when considering the roughly 2-3 minutes you have per player.

I still feel bad for Raven... I got sucked into an unexpected Grind run on Sunday and had thrown away my pre-printed character sheets. So I just had a bunch of tokens laid out. She offered to do a quick estimation rather than add up all of the specifics, but since I volunteered to be a coach at GenCon I wanted to see how she did it. It did take a while... hopefully she understands and forgives me! :)

I'll admit, when you first asked me to do the total calculation, my mind balked and went, "Seriously?!?" but when you explained that you were going to be coaching, and I realized you'd probably find yourself on the opposite side of that interaction soon, I understood.

I think it took something like 4 minutes to add it all up by hand. Obviously not something you want to do x10 players.

The "quick" version which I showed for the gent next to you (Was that Persolo? Can't remember) takes <2 minutes, but I frequently make small mistakes, or miss things like damage types and set bonuses. Still, better to go into the dungeon with your stats off by a point or two, than to waste a room's worth of time calculating everything perfectly.

Hopefully the amazing Cranston will have a Coach App available soon, which can do the calculations for you, and add set bonuses with a toggle switch : )

I was trying to select the "girdle of Wealful Health" in the version 2015.11 of your spreadsheet and it doesn't seem to be a choice for the waist. Its listed in the token data tab but its token character is listed as "null". The token DB site lists it as usable by all as a waist item.

It's only valid for people named "null"?

Wealful is already fixed in version 2015.12. I haven't published it yet as I have some treasure count stuff to add and the decommission of the Reusable Projectile slot.

I'm late to the party, but I also don't use that "slot" on the spreadsheet and wouldn't mind seeing it go.

And I figured I'd bring up the Special slots. I'm wondering if it would be best to remove the ability to select tokens that don't use up an official slot and don't affect the party card. If we don't do this then we'll either need more Special slots or people will have to get used to not listing all of the tokens in their "build".

TL;DR coaches are insanely busy given the amount of time we have per player.

I know player coaches will hate me for this, but I really don't think it is that bad.

Nowadays, I don't player coach as much since I have assistant DM's to help me (thanks Raven and Brad).

And even in cases where I have the *time* to help out with coaching, I often choose not to do so since I need to save/conserve my voice.

But on the occasions when I do stats, I personally don't find it hard to quickly look through tokens (whether spread out, on in a binder, or in a booklet) and promptly churn out the stats.

Penn Jillette is really good at juggling six clubs That doesn't mean juggling six clubs is not a challenge for most jugglers.

Don't get me wrong, for the average player is not bad at all. The issue comes when you have multiple people with 20+ tokens that all effect more then one thing. Its still doable but its tight.

Most folks with that much stuff are kind enough to use the character generators but in the cases where they don't/cant for whatever reason it can be challenging to get finished in 2 minutes.

Raven: Yup *hangs head* That was me...that printed sheet did me little good in my car...though, i was quite proud to have it the previous day for my dungeon run.

I thought your quick estimate was well done. That said, I'm hoping to have down the items I borrow (Girdle of FGS and Bracers Fast Fitness) on a regular basis...and the Charm of Synergy I was loaned for that run...just so I can make the coaches lives easier.

That said, I had a BLAST...and have had a blast using the sheet...as it also helps me realize "oh crap, I need to find a few better charms than the ones I'm using..."

Wicked Charm may be good for boosting my strength for the Maul...but that - to saves...sucks. ;-)

Minor update

Druid’s Sacred Vestments should not give a +2 heal bonus. It is a conditional heal bonus that does not apply to the zero cost spells.
