I know that only a small fraction of players even check these forums, so it may be more realistic to try for a gold/UR trade at GenCon, but I think a well-displayed price list for the unwanted URs will get them back into circulation and give the trader a reasonable payout. A lot of the long-time casual players must have in the thousands of gold.

Because then Jeff has to get into putting $ or GP values on UR tokens, something he has sworn he will never do. He pays attention to what happens on the secondary market, but that doesn't mean he will get involved in it.

Not Jeff, the individual traders could print/display a price list for their UR tokens. There's nothing to stop a trader printing a sign saying "+2 Longsword - 2000 Gold; Ring of Wizardry - 2000 Gold" etc.

My point is that in this manner, people with large amounts of gold who don't check the forums will be able to see what's available without having to actually sit down with a potentially busy trader.

What I'm objecting to is the idea that it's better to create yet another way for tokens to be "destroyed" to the advantage of people with large amounts of tokens rather than continuing to support a secondary market that, with slightly better awareness/communication, will absorb those tokens to the advantage of everyone.

I'm not sure it is obsolete, just not preferred.

If I understand correctly, the medallion takes the neck slot and prohibits the use of the two ring slots. That is a high price to pay with might items, the charm and ring of heroism also available. The neck and ring slots house many of the best tokens in the game overall, so the loss of those slots is a high price, especially by comparison to the use of three might items, which may be best choice tokens in some slots for some classes.

The medallion has its uses.

A stepping stone to the charm - The ring is looking like a much better path, but if you did not pull a ring this year it's not available until 2015.

Fun for newbies. I made a kid on one of my pick up runs very happy by lending one to him so he could be a 5th level wizard. He had junk rings and this was way more fun for him.

But if you have a ring of riches, it's a non starter.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir
