TOPIC: Update on Completed Rod of Seven Parts

Re: Update on Completed Rod of Seven Parts 10 years 2 months ago #145

I would rather call it a prestige class than sub class, and I think it would be cool if it just let you do it the whole con. It would be much simpler to manage. You would still need the id so you couldn't pass it around.

I do not agree with it being able to be used more than once per con. Having a slotless level 5 bump, with extra powers is a big power boost, and an awesome effect. Moreover, this way maybe each year you might try it with another class, making it something to look forward to year after year.

i think the slotless level 5 bump is for just that subclass(whatever it will be called ) run

That's correct. When not being used to play the special class, the completed rod
does two things (or 8, depending on your perspective):
  1. Grants the powers of the seven individual segments:

    +1 HP

    +1 to Reflex saves

    +1 to Fortitude Saves

    +1 to Will saves

    +1 to Strength

    +1 to Dexterity

    +1 to Constitution
  2. Counts as one item toward the Elemental Eldritch set
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

Overall disappointing to me. I was really hoping it was more then the sum of its parts.

Me too. I was hoping for more.

But Jeff has said that the whole Rod was just a little extra "thank you" to the big token buyers, and wasn't intended to be a huge uber powerful relic thing.

Then again, Jeff never thought tokens in general would be such a big thing. :D

I'm happy with the completed rod, having the sum of it's parts, plus part of the Eldritch set, plus running a special class at 5th level once per year seems pretty special to me :)

You can add one more to the count. We will have 1 complete set. Unfortunately, we didn't start buying a lot of tokens until the year of Segment 3, so we have a set that is missing a Segment 1 and a Segment 2.

Yeah, I'm thrilled with the completed rod as it has been presented.

Sure, I'd love to run with the 5th level sub-class more than once per Gen Con. But, allowing that for all the completed rod holders creates yet another tier of players that would need to be accounted for in stating out the dungeon.

I'm not understanding the amount of blowback regarding this. You are getting the original powers, an Eldritch item, and a once per GC special 5th-level class. What more do you want?

I think it is more. In addition to the sum of its parts it:
  1. always counts as a piece in the Elemental Eldritch set
  2. once per year you can play a special class which the vast majority of players won't be able to play
  3. once per year it acts as a slotless level-booster

No matter what powers it has..there would be people saying not strong enough...and those that aren't happy( too strong, ie don't have one)

Me personally I would have liked 2x the seg powers and the special class once a con.
I mean most people that have the rod, have a way to get to 5th level already
