Cranston wrote: Character Generator Version 8.1.0 for IOS has been released. (Android will happen next week)
It includes the following changes:

1. Viper Strike Pants, Mighty Sling, Greaves of Grounding and Plate of the Forge have been corrected
2. Changing between creatures within the same room no longer resets spell/consumable buffs
3. Dungeon graphic has been updated
4. Character Regeneration for moving rooms is now automated (only happens once per room number)
5. Amulet of Wonder has been updated for 2021 effects
6. Turn Undead has been added for Clerics, and will only allow casting against Undead sub types
7. Spell Damage Reduction has been implemented

Enjoy!

I am very curious about 7. Though for some reason I was reading it as eliminated until I saved. But I am still curious now that I have remembered how to read.

Some creatures have damage reduction. You may have noted on melee or ranged hits being lower than expected in earlier events. All item 7 refers to is those reductions are automatically applied to spells also. Makes it easier for the DM's.

This is really good to know. In the past, if I was feeling rushed, I'd just say I was casting a magic missile, pass my skill check and then add 11 to my bonus damage (say 30) and tell the DM I did 41 points of damage. Then I would go ahead and mark the spell off my available list. Now, I need to make sure I use the app to "cast" the spell.

I guess the positive thing is that I'll know exactly how much damage reduction is being applied, since I know exactly what damage I would have normally done.

A little bit more explanation about how damage reduction on spells will show up. First, no damage reduction shows up until you actually cast the spell. Those numbers will only show up on the main view, when it is cast.

I am using a very corner case, but suppose a Wizard casts a Burning Hands, which is 6 or 9 based on the skill test to all creatures plus say 20 points of bonus which is a pool assigned as the Wizard chooses. Now suppose there are 2 creatures in the room, one of which has 10 points of damage resisitance at that difficulty. The app will show:

-4/-1(6/9) : on one line
20 divided : on the next line

Further down it will give the damage on the other creature, which in this case does not have damage reduction.
6/9 +20

The negative numbers indicate how much additional bonus damage must be assigned in order to damage that creature. In the case of the 2nd creature, the numbers are normal. If the Wizard passes the skill test, and wants equal amounts to both, she must assign 15 to the first creature for a total of 14 damage, and 5 to the second to get to 14 damage.

Hopefully, that makes sense.

The example you give in the last paragraph makes total sense. I guess I'll need to see how it looks when I'm casting an AoE spell on multiple creatures. Your description:

-4/-1(6/9) : on one line
20 divided : on the next line

Further down it will give the damage on the other creature, which in this case does not have damage reduction.
6/9 +20

I just don't know if some people will think they have 20 divided and +20 damage. Basically, you have -4/-1 on one creature and 6/9 on the second creature and then only need to list the 20 divided once. The additional +20 wouldn't apply, which you correctly did not apply in your description. Again, I've downloaded the revision, but don't think I can play with attacking multiple creatures.

I would remove the +20 as I can see how people might take it for an extra 20 damage. But that's just me.

The way I read it is you get 20 to divide up and 20 bonus on the second creature based on how it is listed.

Lol. No, you get 20 points total to divide up. I’m just providing the description for both creatures. If there is only 1 creature, it just shows the 1st set.

I get the feeling it'll be ok, but will reserve any further comment until I see it in action. In any event, I'm still in considerable awe every time I use the app over the level of care and detail that goes into it. Just a very awesome program. thanks.

Understand how it is suppose to work. Just reading the app text is telling me something different.

For the corner cast with two foes this what would make it clear for me to read:

-4/-1
6/9
(skip a line)
+20 to divy up
