If a DM picks up a +2 Flaming Blade off of the combat board, they can tell if the player hit simply by looking at the party card and adding the player's melee to hit. However, if that weapon may use melee to hit in some situations and ranged to hit in others, how the DM knows which to apply is not obvious (especially if the player has a round-by-round choice). If the rules get changed, hopefully there is a clean way to avoid this.

That awkward gameplay problem already exists with weapons like Sling Staff and others that can be used in Melee or Ranged attacks.

I had no idea, thanks for pointing that out.

Not to be “that guy”, but just so we are all on the same page, Drakes (elder or otherwise) by definition don’t fly. That’s what makes them Drakes.

Male ducks can fly so I’m confused by “by definition don’t fly.”

Yancey is speaking to the mythical creature drake. Though if they can or cannot fly would depend on who's drake we are talking about.

Didn't we recently fight a devil drake that was flying in the N series?

Yes I was. The "lizard" not the fowl. And according to 90% of mythology, cryptozoology, and fantasy, they have no wings.

Too late. You're 'that guy' ;-)

And put it in a catapult and it'll fly. For a time.

In DnD 5e (sorry only edition I have experience with) out of the 8 Drakes I know of 6 of them have the ability to fly. Drakes in MtG are flying creatures. In TD we know of at least 1 Flying Drake and zero??? non-flyers. So I don't know that your 90% is correct.

Lol. Well considering you are referencing just WoTC and TD and I am referring to the rest of the world, I will just respectfully agree that we disagree.

Any drake can fly depending on how hard you throw it.

since they are both fantasy I think they apply. I don’t disagree that some drakes don’t fly. I only disagree with your 90% asset. Since the word Drake and Dragon were interchangable until I think the 13th century I don’t know about mythology. I admit I have no knowledge of cryptzoology.
For instance smaug of Tokiens The Hobbit is a Fire Drake and a Dragon. Sometimes a drake is a you g dragon sometimes not.
