just a thought...

if TD has a bunch of older tokens around, could he make up treasure boxes for years past. i'm not sure how long that would take. pirate map could be used to get draws from any year from 2007 until current. pirate treasure is after all, lost treasure.

Thanks Jeff.

The change makes sense. It's much easier to track who's transmuting versus whose redeeming. People already need to fill out a form, so you have the information you need. Also, by transmuting in small quantities you've increased the cost of the PTMs, because now you're looking at adding the cost of shipping. There's the $8 cost of shipping the PTMs back when you place the order and the cost of shipping the trade goods to TD. I can see sticking 5 PTM transmutes into an order you're going to place anyways, but it makes it much less likely someone is going to start mailing in 5 PTM transmutes every month.

That is how the original Treasure Maps were done, and they included tokens from 2003 and up. I think they had a much lower mix of "premium" tokens, but they made up for it by having the chance of getting neat older stuff.

I am glad he re-worded it, although I still don't understand why people thought he meant you could only turn in 5 treasure maps per month. That doesn't make any sense, it seemed clear to me that he was saying 'in addition to 5/order, you can only do that 1/month.'
But, whatever, it is cleared up now.

I still want to confirm if this transmute limit applies to in person events? If not, I expect skull con to be when they run out. And if there is a limit, how that be monitored? ...or is it a moot point because they will run out before skull con (which would suck for those of us who do transmutes in person)?

Is it bad that first thought is 2021, because they were never in the treasure boxes?

One of the reasons why I wanted to raise the cost of a Pirate's Treasure Map is because we only have so much "random treasure" set aside for our set amount of the PTM tokens. Once the PTM inventory has been sent out, we won't be recycling any PTM into use as they come back at Cons. We just don't have the extra treasure to do so. That's why we have a 5 limit on making PTM's at once -- and we will amend that so there is a one 5-max redemption allowed per calendar month. I want to make sure everyone gets a chance to get some PTMs - and that all the PTMs aren't gobbled up in a few months.

Check the highlighted sentence from Jeff's post. That's where the notion of 5 redemptions (turning in PTMs) per month came from. But as you said, it's been cleared up now.

I am sitting on 10 big boxes to turn in for trade items and more to go through. when it is all done I could easily do 1k treasure maps. since I drive my tokens to the shop (gas is cheaper than mailing), will they make me walk in and out 100 times? :S

Yes - with a different outfit/costume each time (like trick or treating houses giving out full sized candy bars.) :)

1K maps is mind-boggling. I thought it insane that I was likely to do 100 of them - apparently not.

Is it correct that the most someone can do will be 20 maps that are redeemed (5 times 4 in-person events) and create 70 maps (12 months * 5 each)?

THIS IS A CRAZY AWESOME IDEA. I would love it...and talk about clearing the warehouse AND the chaff...

Is there that much back storage at the warehouse? If so, this could solve tons of problems and even support a recycle of the blue chips...kinda sad there wasn't a recycle especially given the 2023 treasure would qualify as well.

Fred, there's no limit on redemption now (see the updated first post). Although, it seems like there should be some sort of limit on redemption. If someone shows up to redeem 100 Pirate Treasure Maps, it seems like they probably gamed the systems somehow.

Not sure when the transmute window will open, but based on last year it might not open until March or April. Since the last in-person event this year is in October, no one should individually have more than 35-40 maps to redeem in 2022. Is that too many? No idea. If someone shows up with more than that, then they either.
1. Bought extra maps on the open market
2. Are redeeming maps for others who couldn't make it to the con
3. Are gaming the system

I think Jeff doesn't want to really police the back end and is hoping the community will stick to the spirit of what he's trying to do. I guess we'll see.

I do suspect there will be a lot of early transmuting for the maps due to a bit of panic created by his saying that supplies are limited. That's also kind of open ended. But by Skull Con there really shouldn't be anyone with more than 20 or so maps.

So Hypothetically is there any reason the mix couldn't change at some point.

Ie use up whatever current mix is set aside for the maps, then recollect the maps and set aside some quantity of stuff coming in for transmute the spiked with a X% premium items then anounce a new mix (and maybe a new recipie).

If the goal is just a token sink with a few spicy bits it could probably be kept rolling indefinitely with new mixes.

That said I still prefer the idea of a community war effort where people could donate trade goods by a certain date to make a certain thing happen. I.e. the bad guy escapes at the end of an adventure can we as a community collect 1000 of each tier 1 trade good to build an airship and follow them. People contributing at certain levels could get pins or form titles or other minor perks.
