Clarifying question...

Is there a plan to increase the usefulness of gold - other than for artisan tokens and combo tokens?

For the common player gold is really useless, and I heard about it at more than one table at SoCal.

The answer to your question is, I hadn't thought about it. But now that you have brought it to my attention, I will.

Dave

I don't think we should ever get rid of gold. There just needs to be ways to spend it. There is afterall a lot of gold still floating around in collections.

This was one of the benefits of the TD shops, gold always had value.

(Pulls up a chair and sits down)

Hello, my name is Widseth and I love tokens.

Raven, how about a black fire opal for a Purp? Actually much more beautiful than any of the harder gemstones.
Would boots of speed make me sing at 33, 45, or 78 speed? It might sound better if I sounded like one of the chipmunks. Doncha just hate hyperactive bards.

Widseth

I was always partial to Alexandrite, since at least right now it is rarer than diamonds and it is polychromatic. But I guess that is kinda hard to show on a token. Unless we go with laser holograms =D.

AGREED!

SOoooo - How to bring back the shops - but not have them run by TD...

Well - the only thing I can think of is for TD to have space available (I mean a real store type room) and then allow traders to set-up for an hour at a time...

Something, anything, to give the feel of the TD Magic Shop and Blacksmith of old...that would be COOL.

More uses for non-magical items would be kewl - for example, parties could pull out their small steel mirrors in the stone spider room. Other rooms made good use of rope.

I agree there should be a greater opportunity to use gold tokens (buy healing potions, jewelry, etc.), or gems (could a monster be bribed? or someone in the tavern?).

Boy, these forums really help me forget that it's over 200 days to Indy. :BangHead:

Brian

I think we need to be careful here. Gold is only as valuable as the value that True Dungeon officially places on it. In otherwords, if it has no function in the Tavern or in the Dungeon, then Traders won't want it and the value will go down. The same goes for any token.

There must always be "official" gold sinks, be it a Shop, Artisan tokens, Combo Tokens, Guild Memberships, or the purchase of actual merchandise.

I think you mean "un-officially" puts a value on gold...I mean really a 1GP common is the same value as a dagger or a staff to TD. It is the players that set the real value on all items afterall. (Along with TD assigned Rarity that does have a factor in the equation...I'm sure)

I think Combos and Sinks are here to stay - at least I hope they are...but again - something is needed for the common players.

There was just too much talk at tables that there was nothing to do with gold - people had 200GP gems and too much gold and what not - and it was burning a hole in their pouches.
