TOPIC: New Character Sheet Generator File

Re: New Character Sheet Generator File 13 years 10 months ago #145

I've thought of doing it in a website, but I'm not sure I have the programming experience required for the web to accomplish it. In Excel, I'm definitely an advanced user. In Web, I'm a novice once you move from end user to programmer. I'll give it some thought.

Acouple of things I noticed:

I was playing around with the MONK form and it does not include the monk's dexterity bonus in to the monk's AC. The base AC for the monk is 15. The monk's base dexterity is 15, that gives the monk an AC of 17 (without any equipment).

Before you say that the dex is included in the the 15, consider other characters such as the druid. The druid has a dex of 16 and a base AC of 10. The starting AC for the druid is 13.

Now that the ruling for runestone fitting bases allows 2 per weapon, the restrictions in the program should be removed and if possible, a way to indicate what runes are placed in the fittings and the effects on the player's damage.

Monk is a very strange character, but I have double checked the stats for the character (you can also do so by looking at truedungeonfans.com and accessing the Character Sheet for Monk). Dex is 15. Base AC (inclusive of Dex bonus) is 15. So, technically, the Monk's base without Dex bonus is 13 instead of the normal 10. I guess to overcome some of the obstacles the monk faces due to the inability to wear armor, they bumped them up 3 extra points. The rest of the player characters follow the normal rules when it comes to starting at 10 AC and adding the normal dex bonus into the AC.

As soon as I finish testing the latest copy of the Excel spreadsheet I will be posting it (hopefully yet today). It will have a new slot for the second runestone fitting and the dupe check on having more than one runestone fitting equipped removed.

In 3rd Edition D&D (and 3.5, not sure about 4) the monk gets both his DEX bonus and his WIS bonus to AC. Looking at the stats on the character sheet, this adds up perfectly. The question in my mind is, will they ever print a token which ups WIS and will it therefore affect the monk's AC?

Increasing Wisdom would increase spells for Cleric and Druid so probably too powerful.

Yes, but if you wish to follow the 3rd Edition (and 3.5) rules, Paladins are supposed to be getting a bonus to AC due to Charisma. If memory serves, they don't get that bonus in TD.

I can't seem to find that, though I only looked briefly. What I did see was that the Paladin gains a plus to all saving throws equal to the Charisma bonus. Is that what you are thinking of? Looking at the Paladin's base saves on the character sheet, it seems quite possible that it is included.

My bad, upon reviewing the books in question, I found I was thinking of an earlier edition. Of course, it also reminded me of a couple other things that we hadn't had commented on when it comes to characters... like how Paladins are immune to diseases and fear (both of which we have tokens that make you immune to and as far as I'm aware hasn't been viewed as a class perk), provide a fear resistance bonus to their party, and have the ability to turn undead.

If anyone has the means to check if those are actually reflected on the character cards used at the event, I'd love to know if I've just missed them being mentioned.

I have to disagree with explanation. The player's guide states:
As a honed physical weapon, you will note that the Monk’s starting Armor Class is 15 and not the normal 10 of his companions.

It says nothing about dex bonus, (or wis bonus), maybe we could get a ruling from the TPTB?

Given that other characters get to add there dexterity to their starting Armor Class, I still believe that the monk's AC should be 17 with dexterity.

You state it flat out. The Monk's starting AC is 15. Not 17.

Exactly. You look at what all his bonuses are, and there you have it. +2 from DEX, +3 from WIS.

Jim, being a player coach as well as a player, let me assure you that the player cards come pre-printed with the already attribute-adjusted ACs. The Monk's pre-printed value is 15. I always wondered why it had an extra 3 AC over what their Dexterity dictated, but the answers given above of the Wisdom score modifier makes perfect sense. If we ever get a token that modifies wisdom for an entire adventure, I'll build in the appropriate logic to support it.

Feel free to ask TPTB, but I firmly believe that the before token AC for Monk is supposed to be 15, not 17. I'll agree that the player's guide is misleading, but I can speak from what is actually practiced at the event which is more binding.
