TOPIC: Just a thought

Re: Just a thought 8 years 8 months ago #13

The fact that the timing does not work out for the training room starts is a big issue, and a good point. I don't see a way around that, so that kills the idea there.

I tend to miss the story line that used to be always present in the dungeon. The puzzle rooms tended to have it this year, but many of the combat rooms do not have much of a story with them. The final combats this year had some good speeches, but typically leave us without enough time to finish the combat. The combats have to be tougher to keep the token groups challenged. The drow/web room could have had a better speech at the beginning, (the NPC's did a great job) but mostly we ran out of time, so everyone wants to get rid of the flowery discussion to get straight to combat.

Since time cannot change, I would recommend Normal combats get easier, and allow for more story. Hardcore and Nightmare can remain as difficult as present. If players don't have the gear to finish in a couple rounds, run the next level down. Maybe we need to set a hard 2 or 3 round limit, to help make sure each group is out of the room before the next group comes in.

Sorry, thinking out loud.

Rather than decreasing the number of rooms I'd rather go to 10min per room and a party size of 8. Close to the same revenue per hour, rooms could be a tad smaller.

But then there are issues with synergy tokens...

balthasar wrote: Cutting one room off each dungeon runs would let you build a 4 room retro dungeon, much like the one that was held at WYC two years ago. Charge half price, offer no XP/badge, and a max of 2 treasure tokens (yes, exclude enhancers). This would be fun for new players without having to invest as much time or money, would give vets a chance to catch rooms they may have missed, and the capped treasure might keep the farmers from hogging multiple runs.

This being said, I would be sad to see the dungeons go from 7 to 6 rooms, but would be happy to see something old presented in a new way.

One way to stop farmers is not allowing ghost or limiting ghosting to one per person. I'm a fan of that! More new players = more token sales and new people.

You do realize you will get more frequent experienced/new player interaction and that is one issue that was brought up this year. I did 8 newbie runs this year but not everyone would like that.
