People need to use the term "whilst" more.

I guess the big question is if they needed to increase the price for just this year to $500ish to be able to run the con how many people would be willing to pay that much.
My guess is that they might have more problems with local attendees then travelers with a higher price. Us traveling see the badge as a trivial amount of the con cost typically. Hotel, gas and parking /airfare, events at the con, food at the con, that’s the stuff that I really notice. My local cons cost almost nothing, gencon I think I normally spend close to $2000 when it’s all said and done.

I have some idea about the financial side of running a con about half the size of Gen Con... the numbers aren't good unless ICC gives them a very good deal on function space due to lack of demand. It's not just badge sales decreases, but access to 60,000 gamers commands a premium in dealer booth prices. And dealers need to think GC is worth the investment. To say nothing of the various game runners (independent or organized like TD) who provide the content, who may skip for very valid reasons :(

That would be a deal breaker for me. You know if they do it once and attendance holds that's the new price forever.

With a number of states now lifting all restrictions, I won't be at all surprised if Indiana lifts all restrictions before August and GENCON is able to operate at full capacity. COVID numbers have gone down dramatically in Indiana over the last few months, and hopefully will continue to drop with increasing vaccinations. Personally, I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm hoping they take a long look at how the NCAA tourney goes and figure out what worked and what didn't. Even if they're only allowing 25% capacity that should give them an idea of how well the measures are working.

True, that should give some good lessons learned. Although, since GENCON is 3-4 months later, I'm hoping we've made a lot of progress by then. The trend lines are good right now, I hope they stay that way. :)

Sadly even if Gen Con happens this year I won't be able to attend.
International borders are closed for me until November at the earliest.

While I hope Gen Con does go ahead, I also hope the online TD events continue to run for those of us unable to make it.

I wonder if I can get someone there to do a face time run with me, I can use a virtual avatar on a run right?
any volunteers to be my Golem?

Otherwise I'll have to hold my own Gen Con in Oz and run my own version of TD.

Is that a US policy or an Aussie policy?

the border closure? Australian.
We've had a hard border closure for almost a year, with a 2 week mandatory hotel lockdown after entry

It's the same with me, I'm entirely not expecting to make it to GenCon as an international attendee this year as there are just too many variables which would have to line up. Mainly,
- GenCon would need to actually happen.
- International travel without quarantine would need to be permitted.
- I'll likely need to get my vaccination before GenCon happens.
- If GenCon has an attendance cap, I'd need all of the above to happen before tickets immediately sell out.
I play Rogue. Occasionally I even play Rogue well.

I wonder how an attendance cap would work. I suspect close to sell out happened January 2020 when badges went on sale just to get the housing codes. A friend got VIG for the first time.
With 2020's rolling over to 2021, I wonder how they can handle more pre-sales than available slots?
VIG only?
